Awesome. Sounds like a great plan and one that reduces the chance of all the many things that can go wrong!

Cant wait to put this thing in the Holbert car!

Sounds like we are taking the best path here.

Thanks Tim, and most of all, Thanks for the unbeliveable support from the list.

The Holbert 928 will not disappoint next season!

Mark

First of all, what a generous group we have here at Rennlist! I know JD is very proud of what took place with this sponsorship and I personally spoke with Mark Kibort and know he is truly humbled by everyone’s generosity.

With that being said; I know what the application is going to be for this engine and my intention is to supply the engine accordingly. The original engine, which was the main focus of this venture, was purpose built for supercharging so there are going to be some changes made before it gets delivered to Mark knowing what his goals are. I'm sure Mark will be happy to share all the details with you all once they have been ironed out but for now you can be assured that our best efforts are being put into this project. I'll tip my hand just a little and that's going to be it for now: Nikasil, big bore, custom pistons, no cylinder supports (different block). As of 9:35PM CST and subject to change.

I mean absolutely no offense to Tim or Mark when I say this... That's bull****. $5k+ was raised for an engine that needed new pistons and a top end. Now it has been reduced to $5k+ for crank and less than ideal rods worth under $4k. It has gone from helping raise money for a budget stroker for a budget racer to throwing money at an all out engine build. It's completely the opposite of what makes Kibort and the Holbert car such a favorite of fans and the media coverage he has received. Now there's little that separates it from the Evo Mark battles.

Have fun. I'm sure the final result will be great.

Well based on that, we have two options since I have all the money

1. I'm sending it all back - it was fun.
2. Mark gets the motor in Tim's garage AS IS NO WARRANTY to do as he wishes. EVERYTHING was disclosed about this motor before the "pledge drive" started. Tim, Andrew, Todd and I wash our hands clean of this operation and Mark is on his own 100%.

There, now everything is better.

Less than ideal rods my ***. You call carrillo and tell them how ****ty their rods are. Better yet, why not fly to Green Bay and tell Todd yourself this design sucks and you could do a better job. Why don't you sit on the phone for an obscene number of hours with Mahle and find better pistons like Todd did (that ended up failing).

Tim offered to find Mark a replacement block since he has issues with this one. Tim could have told Mark to go screw him self, this is the block he's getting. Todd could also say "I'm too busy" to help vs. jumping in to re-design this setup around what Mark needs.

You missed the point. I don't think the design needs redesigning other than higher compression pistons. Todd and Tim did it right the first time. By less than ideal, I meant length to use normal pistons, not quality. If you're going to get your panties in the bunch at least read correctly.

Option 3: Swap the pistons, done.

Again...

Matt,

I dont know, it really sounds like to me that the proposed engine in its currrent form really doest fit the expectations of what the list wants to help provide, and Tim and Co. is providing a trade up to bring the block and pistons to the right level.

I think fans of the car and program will appriciate that this stock block, heads and ECU has been bumped in power, but is no where near the prep and support of the Evo team, who spent more on the award banquet for SCCA ITE than I spent for the entire racing season. I aways tell them that im so flattered that they bring all these people and equipment to beat little ole me in a 20 year old 928 with 70 race days under its belt, alwasy driving to and from the track.

From the PMs and IMs I've received, that's not the case.

Bored out and Nikasiled is not stock. If you're doing this much to the bottom end, you would be foolish not to upgrade the top end.

Hey, maybe it is the right thing to do. It's just not what was originally put forth.

sure, it would be nice to use 968 pistons, and call this still a porsche engine using stock pistons, however, we would not only need to buy those pistons, we would need rods to match! so, Its pretty simple to get the most out of the current situation. As Tim has stated, another block, chromed, custom pistons and off we go to the races. Keep in mind, i think everyone wasnts the outcome to be a positive one. How lousy would everyone feel if the engine grenaded, or only made 360rwhp after all this effort and support?

One more thing if you're going to be such a bitch about this:

What about

Option 4: Matt is put in charge of getting those pistons pistons that he thinks will work, and is then completely responsible for what happens with them in the stock Alusil bore.

If you want 968 pistons and rods... do it. From 928M, Nikasil is $1395. IIRC, that's more than a set of rods from Motorsport in Utah. You have to buy pistons anyway. Then you have a block and boring. Of course that still isn't what the fund raiser was for, but it's more fitting than everything custom other than the top.

How about 5, you stop hiding behind a fake name. Then Todd calls Greg Gray to get hooked up with whatever he wants since Greg's Mahle contact seems more competant than the guys in the US.
