After having my belt cut into the rad hose noumerous time, I finally switched to the '85/'86 hose. it fits perfect, just like it was made for our setup. It stays way clear of the pulley all araound and runs closer to the fan assembly. I have the stock fan assembly. It does not require a singe cable tie to secure, it just fits perfect.

I wish I had done that a lot earlier. Just a week ago I blew the rad hose on the track and almost crashed the car when the coolant hit the rear tires in a high speed turn.

The fan schroud on the 89 stand out 5 1/2" while the 84 schroud stands out only 2". After looking at both cars I do not see how I will benefit by installing the stock older radiator hose. The schroud itself is close to the pulley.

Bill, do you have an aftermarker fan setup?

Thanks
Yes, Gio, I have a DEVEK fan setup. It is slimmer. BUT I installed the early hose before I got the new fan setup and it definitely moved the hose forward away from the belt. The later hose routed back away from the stock fan shroud, at least in my 89. I could try to PULL the later hose forward with a tiewrap to the fan shroud, but I did not have to do that with the earlier hose. Maybe your year has a different configuration. Also, if you move the PS pulley forward, you will need even more clearance.

The first pic does not do the early hose justice. It misses the belt by a good 2-3". The second pic shows the PN. It ends in 08. Need to figure that out.

OK, it appears 928 106 239 08 is a supercede. The PET didn't show it but might have had I selected the part for order. That's what 928 Intl sells as a '78-85 hose. That's what I have and it works great for staying clear of the PS belt.
http://www.mailordercentral.com/928i...106%20239%2008

Pic of 928 106 239 08 ('78-85) from 928Intl. Top of hose is to the left. Note the long straight section and the acute right angle.

Pic of 928 106 239 09 ('86-95) on my garage floor. Note the much shorter straight section. The cut is usually where the hose starts to bend (marked with red X), much earlier in this later hose.

Funny thing is 928 Specialists shows hose 08 as '78-86 and hose 09 as '87-95. So, ordering an '85/86 hose might get you two different hoses depending on where you order it. Play it safe and order '85 or just order the hose 928 102 239 08.

Default Throttle connections

One more item out of the way..................

Of course I think I'm pretty smart with this rendition, having to design my own "S4" adaptation for the "S" kit that I bought.

I'd appreciate any constructive criticism........... anyone see any potential problems with this?

Hey Sab, just a quick observation but I see some fraying going on the inside of both the PS and ALt belts that is heading for trouble. BTDT ealier in my life. I'm sure it is an easy fix but something you don't want to let run for too long. Hope you don't mind.

Hmmm... one of them is a Porsche belt. Is that original? I had an original Porsche alternator belt snap on me once. It was rock hard... certainly needed replacement. I found out on a good battery, you can drive about 20 miles before you start loosing power

Sab: The PS pump belt is rubbing on a big nut above the alternator. Andy's solution was to leave out the furtherest to the right bolt that holds the PS pump bracket. This allows you to pull the bracket up a bit and lock it with the remaining bolts. It will still clear the radiator hose.

Brian:

That is a damn work of art. I see you know how to weld. I just know how to cut with a hacksaw.

I would have the front wheel a bit more forward so the initial angle of cable pull on the throttle lever is a little less acute. It would reduce the initial tension and pedal effort. You just do not want the wheel so far forward that you do not get WOT. Even with the cable pulling almost straight down, I get WOT. If the pedal feels even and the throttle works well, leave it alone.

thanks guys, I did forget to pull the PS pump up after installing the new rad hose. I let it idle for a while before I noticed it. The belt is just scraped and still seems OK, so I left it in. It does not rub anymore.
The alternator hose does not seem to rub anywhere either, I am not sure where it rubbed to get worn out on the edge.

Sab, did the P/s pulley come with the SG Kit? Mine does not have the raised edge on the front.

Nope, Louie and I fabbed a plate like that for mine. Not everyone has a problem with the belt tracking off of the pulley, if yours does this is a nice fix and works perfectly. Just make the circumference a bit bigger than the power steering pulley. I can get you the measurements if you are interested.
