Are you looking for one of these, or one of Daves new fancy ones?

Victor,

Thanks for the reply, I have a response and an offer of one of those close to me. I will know
later today if mine is repairable. Dave's new style I understand would be a substantial improvement.

Regards,

Ken

I have also been looking for one of Dave's newer manifolds. Good luck finding one, they are rarer than hen's teeth.

Follow up question on the intake gaskets. My original 85 were the metal gaskets with the rubber insert. I don't see those available anywhere. I have 3 of the 4 and need a 4th or else go to the common paper type gasket that is now available. Any suggestions?

I took my manifold to a welder who is a certified boiler inspector. He was surprised the design lasted as long as it has....he has suggested some reinforcement ribs to reduce the bow effect as the mainfold is pressurized that he felt had fatiqued the existing welds.

So.... looks like I am good to go on the repair as soon as he's finished with it.

For meth/water injection, why not just plumb into the existing washer tank? You can even use regular blue washer fluid still, it's already 30/70 meth/water ratio. Those whose headlight system is not working, or they don't care about it can take out the headlight washer pump and install a pump in it's place. I think washer fluid has stuff in it that may not be too good to spray (ammonia, detergents, etc) or that you would have to watch what materials you use in the water/meth injection circuit, but you can still just mix your own at the same 30/70 ratio and it would probably be just as good on your windshield too. Plus the low washer fluid sender is there for when you are getting low so you can carry a bottle or two of meth/water in the back for just in case.

I thought that I would share that I was able to have the original "pizza box" early Andy manifold rewelded by a certified boiler repair person and it is again holding pressure. Now that the boost is at 10psi, I took it to Herr Kuhn to have him perform his black box magic. The results are included in the dyno video below. 457hp and 421 torque at the wheels. I am headed to Mid-Ohio over the 4th over the Porsche Club race and advanced DE. I hope to sneak up on the cars potential as I get reacquinted.

I hope to see some of you at the track soon.

Best regards,

Ken

Great work, Ken. One question...how did you route your air intake? I have a 86.5 that I'm trying to figure out where to place for best cold airflow.

I used a 3 inch tube and went through the fender inner structure into the wheel well. I used an Amsoil filter that will flow about 975 cubic feet per minute. This early picture shows a K & N filter in place. Fender liner put back in to protect the filter from water and dust.

Hope that helps you.

Eric,

Here is a more recent photo. You can also see that I blocked off the area above the radiator in order to take advantage of all the air I could drive through the heat exchanger and radiator. Corroplast held in with velcro...I can pull it easily for access to my IC pump and relays that are mounted in this area.

Thanks, Ken. I will take a look at mine and see if I can replicate easily.

Very nice numbers Ken. Glad to see you were able to fix it. Your car was my inspiration to do my 85 and I used alot of the parts as you did including the Vampire system, Dednbear pump and K&N filter. What I did change on my manifold that I made was I machined grooves in the base and use 'O' rings for intake gaskets as well as machining the boss's to replace the spacers for proper compression. Almost 2 years of track duty and street driving and still making 10lbs boost consistantly.
Couple of questions, was there a problem with the K&N filter? Why switch to Amsoil filter? Also, do you have a problem pushing power steering fliud out of the system at long high rpm runs? I ask because I manage to force P/S fluid out of every clamped connection on the stystem only at Watkins Glen when I'm running 6000 plus rpm through the esses and back straight and everything has been replaced. The only other thought I had was that possibly I was spinning the P/S pump too fast. Any issues for you?

Ed,

Thanks for your comments, I always wonder if what I do is helpful and if it's worth the time to post.

I am running an Amsoil Filter because the filter media is nanofiber. The material claims to filter dust 5 times better than cellulose and 50 times better than gause. The nano material flows without a penanlty because of the superior number of tiny holes and trapped particles have less influence. I wanted to provide as much protection for the motor as I could and more importantly the supercharger vanes.

In addition I no longer have any concerns about the effect of oil on the MAF if I get sloppy. I don't recall the exact filter that I used, but it's as big as I could get in there. The end is also conical and helps develop air flow. http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produc...s-systems/air/
Link is above and then drop down to the universal applications.

With regard to the PowerSteering Pump, I have not been having any problems at all. Several years ago when I was autocrossing I had Griffiths rebuild the pump for me and they offered an increased pressure option...like 10-15% if I recall. Perhaps the higher pressure relief is helping limit cavitation? Can you find a pully to underdrive the pump? A call to Griffiths might be a good first stop.

Take care, Watkins Glenn is on my list of must do tracks.....maybe next year.

Default 91 GT Update

It's been a while since we installed the twin screw setup as a number of modifications were necessary to get the manifold installed. The air/water intercooler is working well with all of the plumbing inside the drivers fender well. The single TB is also much simpler than the twin TBs DR supplied. The TB manifold was modified from a Kenne Bell Cobra intake. The whp are not very good so far so I intend to increase the boost from around 9# to 13-15#. We took compression out when we rebuilt the motor so it should be fine at those pressures. The COPs with the Autronic system are working very well and HP line is straight and solid to 7000. Rwhp is only 375 or so with tq about 350. The torque line is great since it makes that number from 1500 to redline.
I'll be back with more after the next tuning session.

Heinrich, I tried to PM you but your mail box is full. I guess you need to empty it.

I was wondering how much do you want for the twin-screw?
What pulley comes with it (boost?)
what are the Dr Brackets?
What will I need to complete the kit.

Thanks for your time Heinrich, I do not think I will have the money but I need to ask just in case I do.

Brad
