I'm having a set of pulleys made. FeedNfrenzy (Brent) came up with a great idea for the problem with the power steering belt not tracking correctly and in some cases rubbing on the altenator bolt. A small flanged idler pulley mounted on the alternator bolt itself. I made a rough one out of spare parts and it works great. I'm in the process of having the pulley and 1 piece bracket drawn up to bring to the machinist. I'm also having a 10 rib, 9-10 lb boost supercharger pulley made and a wider flanged tensioner pulley (to accomodate the 10 rib belt) made to replace the flat narrow one that came with my kit. I will post pics and drawings soon but I just wanted to see if anybody else with the Keel kit would be interested before I go to the machinist. I don't have a cost for each piece yet but the more I have made the cheaper they will be for each of us. More later

Looking fwd to seeing the pics. Will hood clearance be an issue with the 10rib pulley? The pulley would run farther out and thus closer to the hood line as it slopes down than say a 6 rib.

Charles,

I'm not too familiar with the Keel pulley setup and how it compares with the stock pulley. I'm running the stock pulley, but would be interested in extending it to accomodate an 8-rib belt. DO you think what you're proposing (on the pulley) do this for me?

This is exactly why I posted this before drawing things up and going to the machinist. I needed feedback from other people to make sure it's right. Woody gave me a 8 rib 9-10 lb boost pulley. I installed it and it's smaller than the snout itself doesn't come close to hitting my hood. I think I have room for 2 more ribs even with new motor mounts. YMMV! Woody's intake manifold has a 1/4" plate in between the supercharger and the intake. That's why he had to put the hood scoop on his car. Mine doesn't. I don't know how many variants Keel made but no 2 kits seem to be the same. I want to go with 10 ribs because I'm not using my smog pump and have room for it on my crank pulley and at full boost I always smell burnt rubber. I'll do more testing on hood clearence. If anybody else knows more please chime in. I also realize Keel had Eaton kits and quick change pulley kits. That opens up a whole new can of worms. cfc928gt (Fred) offered me his quick change pulley to mock if anybody needs one in a 8 or 10 rib version.

I think the pulley I'm looking in to making will work on your kit. You might want to check with DR.

I'd be interested in both items. BTW, Charles, I received the injector bushings on Monday thanks very much.

I don't think I have a whole lot of clearance--I've got a divot in the hoodliner from the current pulley, although in keeping with the current project, I'm going to go down one size on pulleys.

Hi Charles:

I'm interested in your new parts.

The 9-10 PSI puilley must be tiny. I can see why you would need 10 ribs. One option would be to make a larger main pulley so the snout pulley wouldn't have to be so tiny.

I don't have any slipage with my 8 rib pulley.

One thing to keep in mind is that the parasitic loss will increase with the additional ribs.
How much I don't know.

Will do. IIRC you guys run your SCer belt by itself with a dedicated alternator belt fwd of that - whereas on DR's setup we use the same belt to drive the alternator and the SCer belt. i'm running 9.5 psi and get considerable belt dust with the 6 rib belt.

I have that 1/4 inch plate also between the SC and the manifold. Nice thing is it allows you to remove the SC independently of the manifold. So far the mods Iveto my belt/pulley routing seem to be working well. I dont think i could get away with a 10rib. My pulley already has rubbed the hood foam 8 rib will probably work
It was a good excuse try a smaller one ya know

Funny, I was just looking for an 8-rib version of the 2.25" 6-rib I have on my car right now. I was unable to find anything that small. Closest I found was 2.5" 8-rib.

On Ralph's car his 2.875" 6 rib pulley on the Eaton SC is cutting into the hood liner. It's the same size as was on the eaton after removal from the donor jag. He does have new motor mounts, which makes a difference. One issue we need to figure out is what is the maximum size pulley that will fit without cutting into the hood liner, like maybe 2.5". Both Ralph, Rick Carter and I had a custom lower crank pulley made that's 6" in diameter but I think we still need a 10 rib belt to both eliminate slippage as well as help reduce bearing stress from over-tightening the belt.

cfc928gt is right about my pulley but the outside dia is 3.0 in. However, we milled some off the the bottom of the pizza box so it was perfectly flat. That gave me a little extra room. The Embree Hub I am using will not accomadate a smaller pulley so I have been thinking about changing it out so I could use a 2.75 or 2.8 pulley with 8-10 grooves. I am not getting much slippage but like Fred, am concerned about the bearing loads being excessive when you have to get the belt so tight.

I'm putting my entire intake back together tonight. It's been apart for 20 months. My intercooler is fixed. I have my injector bushings ready. Fresh cleaned & flow balanced 36 lb injectors back from Cruzin Performance. All freshly powdercoated. I have 6 spacers for inside the intake. I honed out the intake to match the heads. I cut some 1/8" cork gaskets for heads to intake seal. I got some tubes of right stuff. I'm ready to go. I would like to bolt it all together with a piece of 1/2" steel flat bar where the heads would be and test the intake for leaks on my work bench and then take the flat bar off and bolt it to the heads. Anybody else did this before? Any suggestions?
