Between the two, my money's on Chuck when it comes to knowing what's what about GTS's and 928's in general...

OK, time for me to lurking in the shadows.
Those of us trained in economics (and no matter that it was when the Porsche 901 was radically new) understand how to distuinguish between value and utility.
The value of any person's property is the price that another person, ready, willing and able, will pay to own it. The value of late GTS's is based on rarity and low miles. They are trading chips. If they are used, they lose value.
Utility is much more subjective. Stock for stock, every year's Porsche is more useful than the prior year's Porsche. Management doesn't spend millions of Deustch-marks every year because they're gullible. Those of us willing to accept compromises can increase utiility withoug increasing value. The problem with the high-value late-model, low-mileage GTS's is that their value-gambling owners can't afford to use them.
MY 86.5, which commutes to work on a thousand-foot, ten-mile drop, has been to the top of Mt. Evans (easy), the top of Pikes's Peak (more difficult), and the crest of Range Ridge Road up out of the Garden of the Gods (damned hard), and offered rescue to a Jeep. I will suggest that no one who owns a late model GTS could afford to diminish their value to enjoy the utility.

Silver,
Errr - maybe not... I drive my '94 GTS everyday and would drive it anywhere I thought was an enjoyable drive. To me it was an investment in my enjoyment - maybe you consider this only utility... to me its a bit more than that... I have no plans to sell - ever! (so stop calling... OK!) so the value in your terms is rather irrelevant to me. I'd bet most GTS owners see it that way. Yes there are garage queens out there - but to me they just don't get the point.... owning AND NOT driving a GTS is crazy!
It's a great car but probably will never be supremely valuable - its nice to see valuations on the rise buit I don't think I will ever get the $'s out that I paid and have "invested" since.... Who care's! - that's not how I value the experience. I was lucky that I could afford the car at the time and can still maintain it in great condition. As a monetary investment I think it stinks - however I look at it (like just about all cars). Driving it gives me great enjoyment everyday (well almost every day), very few other cars even come close to the "smiles per mile" whats the price on that....
If you always wanted one - and can afford it - buy one But drive it too! looking at it is only half the fun!
