With only one other 928 under my belt of ownership and that being almost 15 years ago I would have to say the GTS is an exceptional GT. My euro 80 was a great car but nothing compared to the GTS. I have tried some newer exotic GT's that are similar in design (don't care to mention names or bash other cars) but the GTS is a great car for a heck of a lot less then these other exotic GT's. My wife and I don't drive the GTS that much only 3k miles since we bought it in April but we really enjoy everything about it. The low-end torque makes highway cruising and sitting in traffic a dream compared to most 5 speeds.

Our GTS has 58K miles on it now and yes I do think about when I decide to take it out. I don't like to drive it for no reason and just put foolish miles on it and do the same with my turbo. The turbo is now up to 36k miles and I don't drive it for no reason either. We autocross and Concours both cars. Both have won numerous trophies and get tremendous amounts of attention. It is amazing to see how many people walk up to you and start asking you questions because they have never seen a GTS or 3.6 turbo.

Rarity has a lot to do with the pricing of these cars, I think because people are starting to realize how great these cars really were. The new cars have a lot to offer. But these cars are the epitome of the modern sports car era. Truly German refinement at its best, without the computer gadgetry of today, the last of a time that can no longer be replicated. These cars were expensive to build and very expensive to buy. The sports car industry was suffering in the early 90's and the SUV market was taking over. Now people are coming back to sports cars and for those that want simple basic raw fun without too many bells and whistles, what else is there to choose from. I for one think the GTS is great but would not use it as a daily driver, especially around the NYC area.

Going back to Michael, I bought my GTS from him and since then have seen lesser cars sell locally for more. I can say I got a great deal. The car was delivered in pristine condition and has been a great performer. It does not have any oil issues unless you consider one quart, every 1k to 1500 miles, which is about average for every Porsche I have ever owned. Michael also went out of his way and resolved some minor issues that I would have been stuck dealing with on my own if I would have purchased the car privately. I will also say that I found my turbo through http://www.porscheclassified.com/ Both Michael Willhoit and Luxnet were very helpful in purchasing both cars sight unseen and in each case I found a perfect example without issues and all the records back to day 1. If you say I paid too much, that is your opinion. I couldn't be any happier and so far I have been offered $15k more for my turbo and $10k more for my GTS than what I paid. So, I think I can safely say it was worth it.

Well said Anthony although my experience with Kim was a bit different probably because I was a seller (a seller who knows 928s) and not a buyer. I too have been offered lots more than I paid for both GTSs by people who have been looking but can't find the right car.

I Jim and Shane, I was glad the car could make it... I had to twist Mike's arm to do it... not.

I will try to attended something before I leave this coast in June.

I thought it was "original body" style (pre 86.5) but didn't want to ask. Guess that's close enough, though.

Guess it could. That too works for me! Perhaps it could be 86 and older?

The GTS market is interesting. Here is my recent experience. I've known about this car http://www.928registry.org/1993-928GTS-0134.htm ,since it was new. It was owned by an old lady(really), that was president of Miami Metro Zoo. This blue looked stunning. A few months ago, I saw it for sale on the trader. My thinking was that I had some time because, it was a 93", an auto, had a little body work, and it was Horizon Blue(no that popular). Well, that car went in less than a week for the asking price!!

As far as price is concerned, consider this. You could buy a GTS today for 50k, own it for five years and sell for the same amount(maybe more). Try to do that with a 996/997.....

I spoke to Kim when looking for the GTS but was not able to locate one for me. I dealt with Mike McCoy when buying the turbo, he really did a lot of leg work for me and made the transaction very easy. Based on how the deal went I think I got the better end as a buyer than the seller did, but that is only speculation.

This is a good point...in 5 years any new car will be worth substantialy less than it is now.

The prices for 928's over the next 5 years should be interesting? GTS's & GT's should at least hold steady, hopefully all the models will show appreciation in that time period? The last market analysis from Excellence showed a steady up swing across the board for all 928's since 2003! Again low mileage and well maintained examples will command a premium over less prestine examples! Think about it $25K for a 12K miles 89S4...with a seal of approval from Greg Brown...that is basically a brand new car that cost $80K in 89!

One thing that worries me about the really low mileage cars is mehanical problems that develop from lack of uses (think all the rubber drying out)?

Its wierd... every crashed 928 and every new GT type model that comes out in tho 120k+ column is gonna make these cars look like no brainer bargans and collectors items... my wife took the GTS out with S/C installed (this girl knows cars) all she could say was yummy.

As far as I know, OB means CIS shark, so 78-79 US, 78-84 Euro IIRC.
