I think that any of the people that have posted in this thread would be more than willing to help out. Ernest, Doc Mirror, Rog, Justin and John Speake all are really good guys and can be loads of help. You would probably have all the help you needed in Glen Rose with the right amount of adult beverages. I pop through Glen Rose about once a month, and Justin works in Cleburne. Just let us know if we can help.
Rick Jordon used to work at the Porsche Store In Plano and does know his 928s. I'll tell you right now that Mayo doesn't know jack shee-hot about 928s!!!
I'm guessing fuel pump or fuel pump relay. I have a spare pump if you need one, I'm in Irving..... oh, don't forget the final ignition stages or the connector over the fuse panel for them conenctor with two wires one green and one white.... I also have a fuel pressure gauge for the passenger side rail, so that we can see what kind of pressure we are looking at....
do you hear the fuel pump buzzin when you turn on the key before you start it?
Before I took the car to the shop, I did validate the operation of the fuel pump and relay, but the shop I have the car in told me the pump was bad, as well as the LH computer, so I had them replace both thinking they knew what they were talking about. So...the car has a new pump. When I get it back, I'll go through it all again and make sure I know what's working and what's not.
Thanks to all. As soon as I get the car back, I'll be back asking questions..and yeah!! We'll have a DFW outing out to Glen Rose! The cold beverages are on me!!
Count me in! Had a similiar problem with my 89GT. Turned out to be the electric portion of the ignition switch. The car would be running great then just die. Symtoms were the tach would drop to zero and all the red lights would go on like a christmas tree. The problem eluded me because I would pull off the road, turn off the ignition and 99% of the time it would start and run great again.
I agree with Chuck Schrieber about Mayo's, great place if you have an early 911 but nada with a 928.
I'm near Aledo, just up the road from Glen rose. We'll make a half day of it. I still think electrical. Poss EZK brain or relay. Easy check, and darn reliable - pull one plug on each side. Insert a plug into the wire connector end, and bround the base on the cam bolt. Crank the engine and look for spark.
Get your old parts back from the shop. It's the law, they have to provide them. Now you'll have a spare pump and relay.
185318, what shop did you take it too before Bobby Archers? If you dont mind telling use. Im in for the Glen Rose day, just let us know when and where.
This sounds like a great challenge for the DFW crew.
Lets get it set in stone and fix this car.
Name a date.
Do you need help in picking the car up? It could be cheaper to borrow a trailer or even rent one for the day from U Haul.
I could rent one and pick your car up and deliver it to you.
Doc may have a trailer - he has everything else.

Thanks everyone. I'll get the car back tomorrow or tuesday. before i took the car to bobby archer's, i took it to a local mechanic in cleburne, tx on a recommendation from a friend with a old 911. that was the 1st mistake. I'm gonna cut my losses and get the car towed back to glen rose, check the pump, relays, spark, etc...and then if i still can't get it to fire, i'll set up a time on a saturday upcoming. It's not a bad drive out to glen rose these days. we can compete with all the harley's.
LOL, I know the shop, Advanced Automotive, He is one of my customers, your car is a red S4. He told me it had no compression, did he say that to you too?

MAN! You're EXACTLY correct! Yeah, he said it had no compression, so I took it to Ft. Worth. BIG mistake either way. The guys at Bobby Archer's didn't mention compression problems. I just can't wait to get it back to my house. At least I'll know what's wrong and what's not. At this point, I don't have a clue anymore.
one of the challenges is going to be, finding anything that the 2 shops did to t-shoot it and cause other issues.... I saw one S4 at a local shop and they were scratching their heads about.. the plug wires were all jacked up.....
Correct. I shudder to think of what's been done so far. I know the fuse\relay panel has been jacked with. I'll know more today and hopefully can have my car back tomorrow or wed.
