What a great deal!
The guy posts a question about mechanics and a team of wrenches will show up at his door.

When the clutch on my 993 decides to die, can you guys swing by my place to help the the job?
Its not too much harder than a 928 steering rack....... I'm told

It is a great deal, considering I just dropped 2 months, a new LH computer, fuel pump, and 3 hrs labor and i'm not any better off than before I took it to the shop!!!! MAN!! I thought I learned!!!! Why do I want to keep this car????? Because when it's running, there's nothing that compares! My job is to keep it running and not let it sit in a garage for a year before I decide to fix it.
This forum has a lot of great folks who are truly enthusiasts. They know more about this car than anyone!!

Hello? Still need a car with EZK, or a bare EZK. Will a digital 89-91 work in an 87 car?

Roger will deliver the EZK from his 89 to me tomorrow and I'll bring it with me. Looks like Roger has a prior committment. He's planning on meeting us at Doc's place later.

Thumbs down whoops!

I won't be able to make it to Glen Rose, sorry. Seems I have a clutch problem. I went to change the clutch pivot arm bushing on mine and the entire ball stud comes out. So, I'm starting to drop my clutch to see if the bell housing can be repaired or if I need to replace it.

If someone wants to drop by I can give them my relay jump harness, the battery charger and drain pan. I'll be needing my flourescent drop light and flashlight myself.

Good Luck in Glen Rose, wish I was there!!!

Hi Doc,
For a quick functional check you can swap any S4 onwards EZK or LH into any 87 >> 928 and they will work OK.

regards

Thanks to Ernie calling and my wonderful wife hearing me explaining why I could not make the Saturday tech session - she has let me off the family committment so I will be there. I will also make Doc's pool and BBQ session, thanks Doc looking forward to it.

I will bring the "Brains" - is there anything else I need to bring apart from my swimming togs?

Doc, do we all get a chance to fly in your new plane???

Uh, great to hear we've got everything lined up. PS I'll be bringing some belts just in case, but don't plan on a belt job.

That's a negative on the plane ride. I went out there and it was a POS. Cracked paint on both wings, delamination on one, intercom problems, nav radio problems, leaky nose strut, both fuel gauges inop, door seal huge leak, etc. Looked good from 20 feet, and in low res photos, but lots of deferred maint. Sound familiar?

I might be going to Gnu Yawk next month to get one, but still in planning stage.

I've had of two cases where my customers found the wrong relay was plugged into the kick-down relay socket and the engine wouldn't start. In one case, it took the shop OVER THREE months to determine the problem. I sent out rebuilt LHs and EZKs and spent a lot of time on the phone going through the circuit diagrams. What complicated the matter was the original technician that yanked all the relays (and probably plugged them in wrong) quit and a second tech had to jump in and try and make sense of the problem.

Always label the relays before removing them and keep track of where they go. On S4 and later 928s, you can interchange the horn, LH, EZK and fuel pump relays. The three relay sockets to jumper in this kind of situation are LH, EZK and fuel pump. When the 30 to 87 terminals are jumpered all kinds of potential problems are eliminated - if the engine does start than you insert the relays one by one and then start tracking down the problems in all those related circuits. Also, if the engine starts running, you will need to remove one of the jumpers to stop the engine.

Another hint is to always check for spark. If there is spark, that confirms that the inductive RPM sensor is working - that sensor is necessary for spark and fuel injection. Another very important circuit to confirm continuity is the EZK socket pin 13 to LH socket pin 1 connection.
