Pressed in the new bearing and reassembled the unit. The counter shaft took a bit of work mostly tuning the input shaft and rolling the transmission, then suddenly thunk, thunk, and it slid in. Next replace the output shaft seals, grease up the diff bearings install that unit light tap in the carriers and install the stub axles. Clean the housing and cover, install the cover.
I don't know yet how to install the lid with the springs and clasps.

What is that spring called and what's it for?
I assume the tip goes into the spring. According to the WSM there should be shaft on the spring. Is this necessary?

I worked on the 928 all day yesterday. Didn't have time for pictures between cleaning the transmission and rear subframe, installing and torquing everything the exhaust, rear brakes, wiring etc. the only screw up is the rear pinch bolt is not aligned for easy access. I was more focused on installing it with straps and jacks.
So now I need to run the engine ever so slightly which is not easy with the nose on the ground since there is no room to turn then engine from the top without removing the fans which involves loosing coolant.

Connect the battery pull a 14 pin connector apart and touch the pin that’s closest to the front and closest to the right fender to the hot post and it will turn the engine

Guess I should wire it so I can do it from under the car. It least this time i glued the clamp in place so it didn't slide off and disappear into the TT.

I had the clean and apply anti seize to the brake pads. I thought the previous mechanic serviced them but now I know he didn't. So a brake fluid flush is also in order.

Great success. No more bearing noise.
Just the V8 and injectors. Classic 928. Next challenge is the seats. I covered the badly damaged leather. Now it's either LSeat or try getting a local shop to only replace the damaged leather. The backs and head rests are fine. The centers and bolsters are dry.and cracked.

Had to remove the rear spoiler again and pry on the mechanism to get it to open. Then i greased it up.

Riddle me this Rennlisters.
A few days after finishing this job the engine wouldn't start. Found a blown FP fuse.
Now it starts but the idle is very low. It revs as usual and there is a bit of a vibration at around 2000 rpm.
Any suggestions?

Vibration could be a cylinder not firing or plug wires connected improperly. Check that all the plug wires are solidly connected at both ends and make sure each wire is going to the correct cylinder.

Found the problem on the 928. The left coil wire came off for some reason. Now 1/2 the plugs are flooded. I'll pull and clean them this weekend.

Smell the dipstick. If it smells like gas, change the oil before proceeding - gas is a poor lubricant.

I replaced the spark plugs with new Bosch ones. And still the same problem. No spark from the right coil. There is power at the coil. Any suggestions?

Gee I wonder why the coil failed. Cracked and corroded. I could have sworn I cleaned its and it wasn't broken 3 months ago.
WTF happened!?
Swapped in a used coil and she is all better now.
