there were quite a few problems with the LX.. i was told by several officers that at 140+ the back of the car was so light it became very dangerous. so light that several officers wrecked due to crosswinds. one said he was running down a road that was wooded on the side, and when it opened to a field the wind hit him and the car started doing 360s off intot he field, he was lucky...
so i absolutely see how the shape of the back of the 928 would create lift at high speed and would be very dangerous as the top end increased.

Drifting
my dad was the police comissioner where we lived so i knew a lot of cops and state troopers. Back in the 80's then the 5.0 LX mustang came out it was faster than the GT, and lacked the spoilers, etc... the NC state patrol adopted them for thier cars as they were able to accellerate quickly when they passed a speeding vehicle going in the opposite direction ( the Radar that could be used while moving had just started use here then).

I ordered a Mustang GT 5 speed from the factory in 1986 with ac delete and roll up windows, anything to save weight. It was a fun car as a 1st car, but like all sports cars back then it was basically only good at killing tires. There was a stretch of the Mass Pike nearing boston around newton that was straight and wide with NO place for cops to hide. I tested a number of cars there for top speed. The anemic V8 of mustangs back then would only get up to 130+ and it felt like it wanted to explode. No mustang was doing 140's.
I was fortunate enough to drive my friends father's 87 911 on that same stretch of highway. The 911 just got into the 140's and was way more composed. That was a fun car. HOWEVER NEITHER the mustangs nor the 911's were in ANY way close to my 85 EURO! That's a 167mph rocket that is built like a vault. I have had mine at 160mph and it is like driving at 55, total confidence. At about 125mph the 928 hunkers down and stays put. INCREDIBLE CAR.
tidbit - The stradman took his 400bhp Ford focus RS onto the salt flats and could not exceed 145.
found this after I posted the vette picture above. It has been heavily modified kind of like an RWB 911 but sure looks good.

Hi Bertrand, no, I had it several years ago, put 215,000 miles on it and sold it. Great car, then I was on to the 1991 GT, the XX8 car, sold that. Now I'm just a 911 driver!

In my 20-year experience of owning the 911/933 below, people think it's anything but pedestrian looking. Curves everywhere, big hips - it looks like a racecar.
Strangers have consistently commented over the years - 'that's one sexy looking car!'
If the 928 had some hips just a little bit like that - it would still be in production.

Borne out by looking at the used prices. Lucas electrics "prince of darkness"

New 928 owner here, I now own 2 of the most beautiful cars ever made, though my 71 GTV will not look as good as this one for awhile because of the 928 purchase
