This IS the good used fuel tank that I bought after Frenzy....and it actually had 2 leaks - one where the patch is and one where the outlet boss was.
1/2 gallon of gas has been in it for 2 hours and it's still dry on the bottom. Going to see how it does overnight.
The patch was completely dry overnight - yea!. However, the outlet boss has a drip forming even though that part is new with a new gasket, so I drained the 1/2 gallon of gas again this morning and am going to reinstall the outlet boss with some fuel resistant gasket sealant on the threads and around the gasket. The good news is it's leaking at the fitting and not where the threaded tank boss is welded to the tank. Don't know if fuel is migrating through the threads due to some rust on the threads or why it's leaking at that seal, but hoping this will finally do the trick.
How tight should that threaded tank outlet be screwed into the tank?
Should I permanently leave a clamp around the circumference (like I had installed when unthreading the original tank boss) in order to keep it round, put some pressure on those threads, and maybe prevent deformation and weeping?
Dang Pete! Just got caught up with this! Rotten luck! I think I am going to get a plastic weld kit and patch up the old tank I have. Not too sure about those epoxy solutions. Watching yours with interest.
Put a stainless wore tie around the plastic boss outlet to keep tension on the boss as it was threaded in put some fuel resistant sealant on the threaded outlet and the outside when reassembling and let it cure for 48 hours..
I've had gas in the tank for 6 hours today and it's dry underneath, both at the patch location and the outlet.boss so reinstalled the cradle and put the access cover back on.
Headed for the gas station to get about half a tank as it's heading to the airport early in the morning.
I do like those phone dials with the polished lip... nice touch
Thanks - me too - they really kind of make the car IMO. With the low stance and lippy rear dials - gives it kind of period correct look, but with something more going on and a more aggressive look.
Happy to report that when I returned to the car yesterday evening, everything was still dry - no smell of fuel, no drips formed on the cradle hole, and no wetness at the patched curve either, so it's fixed, at least for now.
Subtracted an 81 Euro 5-speed (added an 84 Euro S Rogerbox)
Well, this will probably be my final entry into this thread as Joel and I decided to swap 928s. I love the look, detail, stereo, and everything about his custom 84 Euro S Rogerbox and he wanted a less nice, manual trans for regular use. We got to talking at figured out a deal. Met in KY today and made the exchange. Both cars ran great there and back.
I'm thrilled and Joel says he's happy too, so we'll call that a win-win!
There are 2 or 3 928s that are at the top of my want list. Checked one off today. David's Louie Ott car is another

Thanks Brother. I was under the 81 at the alignment shop yesterday getting it dialed in for today's drive and meant to tell you that it was still dry with carful inspection. It being a week now with about 15 hours of drive time and hot and cold temps, my confidence that it hold is pretty hight.

but I think I'm going to leave it as is and keep this one as a distance runner. Seems like I have the bases covered with a convertible, manual, supercharged car and coupe, auto, with one of the best 16v engines, and I just like the look of the spider intake more than the organ pipes
