I did this cup holder a long time ago. Eventually took it out because the PLA doesn't handle the summer well, and drinks made it awkward to shift gears. But it wasn't bad...

I've seen that fold up one, and I've considered it. But I don't want to screw into the 951, nor have any adhesive that might harm the interior.

I'm trying to find something inventive to use. Now that 3D is a thing, I'm sure we can come up with something!

If anyone is interested, I'll dig this model out and re-work it to address the couple minor issues I ran into (too thick and contacts dash when door closes, holder was designed for one specific cup). It'll require a decent sized printer, but I use it regularly and it has been great.

In all honesty, those parts look much easier to print than the one I devised.

I like to design for the process and materials, the results are generally better, even if they're not as pretty.

What part of STL? SoCo here.

We'll see soon, guy has a couple more hours on the first print of yours.

He did increase the size some, seems he found online what the size a cup holder needs to be to hold the largest range of cups, and increased size 5%.

We go back to work Sunday night, so it will be Monday till I can do a test fitting on my 87.

I guess 2.75" is the magic number. He said it was at 2.68" in his software. I worry the size increase will affect how it attaches to the map holder, but we'll see Monday.

We can't have too many options! I'll report back on how the 2.75" one we are printing now goes. Maybe we can mix and match designs to come up with something perfect for everyone and a large range of cup sizes.

Right on. If you see some douche in an unwashed black beater `87 NA with phonedials, saratoga top, and minor hail damage, it's probably me.

I might have to print that cup holder. Did the design files for the speaker/cup holder get lost?

I printed the one that replaces the ashtray. It's OK, but does get in the passenger's way. Also, make sure you remove it before moving the seat forward. Don't ask how I learned that.

I also printed a 'riser' for it, so that it can be reversed and the cup ends up centered over the console. That is better for the passenger but more i the way of shifting.

I'm reworking them to be useful for anyone who doesn't get the same cup of coffee I do, and doesn't want their dash imprinted with speaker grille.

I can't say for the original design, but with the increase in size for a large range of cups, the blue one above does not fit in the map holder area of the door. (or any other area)

But to be honest, I think the map holder location is a good idea, just needs more design work. Might try to figure out something along those lines. Just seems like a good area.

Yeah. I admittedly designed that cup holder to fit standard aluminum cans and plastic 24oz bottles.

If you can take a pic of it in place, I can probably adjust the fit to be a bit better...
