Segways are BADASS, my folks almost bought one last year after having been on a Segway tour around Houston. They can get up and go... I think 20mph? Not as fun as a 944 though.
Besides, you can get a newer model Porsche. But what happens in 10 years when your 1997 Boxster is as old as a 1987 944 would be in 2013? PLUS all the modern-car-stuff? You were worried about 944 electrics... have you seen a modern car's wiring harness? 944s are a walk in the park compared to my friend's '03 G35.
It's not like any Boxster you can afford in the next 5 years (no offense) is going to be new and reliable. You still get failing plastics, bearings, seals, and electricals, with the same Porsche labor rates

Engine Sound Question
I just looked around and I don't think anyone's asked or answered this question before but I could be wrong.
In every 944 I've seen there's always a very distinct whining sound when the engine is revved up.
My question is are those sounds actually normal? or is there something wrong with the engine? Timing belts maybe?
I just read in my new book that the S models have this sound because of the twin cams if I read it right?
This video of a 944S makes the sound very apparent in the first 2 minutes

A belt is too tight. People say that the timing belt will make that noise if it's too tight, but when I had mine WAY too tight it sounded normal, so I think it could also be a tight b-shaft belt. Who knows. The 944s I've been in or around have never made that noise... but I've heard it on some youtube videos.
Also that guy is slipping the clutch at every shift

Then again, I have seen some videos with and without the whining sound.
