Its a 30 year old sports car, what do you expect.
It must die, since it has an expiry date like everything else. Shoehorning V8 in it is just ruining the concept.
Either have it as it is, or have a corvette, or mix the two together to whatever receipt suits you best, but don't preach about it in every damn thread.
When you put V8 in it it is no longer a porsche nor it is a corvette, it is your project car. This board is about 944/951 not your mixed bag car project that you didn't even start yet.
Why dont you go to GT3, CGT, and all the rest of the sections and shine a light to them too on the subject.
V8 is not a savior, it is an american engine that is in every american car. In europe though, we like f*ed up belt driven complicated unreliable designs and thats just how it is. (although you cant really complain when a car dies after 30 years)
Id rather throw everything in a trash than put a V8 in it. And I am not a big V8 in 944 hater, I actually respect the effort that goes in to these projects, the thing I hate is this preaching about how bad a design that likes to die after one third of a century is.

Nah, not really. I like some of your other points. Not V8 though
The problem is that LS engines are rare here, so even if I would want to use LS, I would have to fork out twice the $$ for one and search for every part or order it from US, so it may be a good option in US, here just about any possible swap would cost same or less.
I hope your prez. mr hussein barack stops tapping angela and they get on with trading agreement, since I would love to get a crate LS for a good price and make a nice 500kg lotus 7 or something like that.
I would skip 996 altogether 993 or no deal

Dude, efficient or not it won a world war! Gotta respect those Spitfires in the Battle of Britain, built for a purpose, not to be efficient. Bit like comparing the Blower Bentleys to a modern Le Mans car.

Why is there no miniature version of GAA engine?

True lol. I would say any Porsche past its second owner is a project.
Also True....but probably more to do with the price of petrol over there. Smaller capacity engines with added complications to increase performance = less reliability and expensive parts. Whereas across the pond our much cheaper gas prices meant we could just up capacity on a simple engine to achieve performance = more reliable and cheaper parts.

but the amazing thing is, despite all the endless cheap parts availability from people stripping their rides....
their is still a massive attrition/turnover rate of owners/posters....
and we all agree on 1 thing.
we love the cars.
even though owning one and driving the f_ck out of it can, at time, be almost as expensive as owning a real Porsche.

Three Wheelin'
I'M STILL HERE!!!!
Oh wait...I did a V8 swap years ago...crap.
Well...I don't have much to say here I guess...except that I'm looking into LS blocks and considering undertaking the task of building 944 friendly, V8 swap, tuned and/or 180 degree headers...that would be fun as hell!
You know what else would be fun? A boosted 5.3 aluminum block LS with aftermarket heads/intake/throttle body and a good cam...hmmmm...
I feel like I'm turning into Od over hurr.
Oh yeah. I had a point! If anyone wants to take a ride in my beat up LT1 swapped 87 N/A that has totally shot suspension, stock unboosted brakes and no power steering or A/C, that I daily drove for 4 years without much in terms of maintenance (only occasional problems associated with old parts I hadn't replaced yet or things I forgot about...), Shoot me a PM and I'll take you out for a tirespinning good time...You'll be surprised how damn good the car sounds, and how damn good it goes
I like my turbo...but I miss driving my 948, and can't wait to go home to her
Peace,
Ethan

The beauty of it is that when driving down the road, people look on the car as an very nice little old timer, not a snob *** rich f*k. When mine was on the road, it was very usual for people on gas pumps to admire it, take photos and start general chat about cars, and stuff like that. Nobody hated me for driving it.
New porsches generate just the opposite, people hate the owners since most of them are the elite that everybody hates especially now with this bank/government/corruption bull**** vs fan situation.
The second notion would be that here in yrop, we are fascinated by group B rally cars, and properly set up 951 is a very similar beast to those from group B.
If I had money for new porsche, I would buy old 1.75L Lancia S4 Stradale. ( http://www.influx.co.uk/wordpress/wp...llpaper_03.jpg )
This is how popular group B was here, it was insane by all standards:

What is the weight of a undressed ls2? The block is around 100lbs, what about the rest?
