for the record, a BMW M70 V12 will fit in the 944 if you cut/bump the hood at the front a bit...

youll need a 4-5" bump in the hood from the front edge sloping back towards the distance about where the distributor on the 944 engine is...lol.

rad may have to move forward a bit but that is easy. there'd be tons of room on either side of the engine though for work...IIRC its 3" narrower than an SBC.

we have guys like V2 Rocket who will probably always have a 944.

but take a few hours and skim the last 400 pages of threads on this forum and

1. read the thread titles (carnage).

2. take a good look at the avatars that have come and gone.

i've heard this forum referred to as a junk parts swap meet.

sadly, where there's smoke there's fire. in the end,

even the best junk part swap meet ever, still might not be enough.

Jayzus,

the it's not just a forum, it's a junk car swap meet is running on all 3 cylinders, this fine day.

endless breakdowns, dying engines, and scrap parts peddlers UP THE *** the last few days...

and just when you thought it couldn't get any worse,

down goes another: [a hydro-locked 944T].

i know no-one is supposed to say these things, but at this rate,

THE PLACE IS GONNA BE A GHOST TOWN SOON.

A V12 is going into a 928 and from the dimensions I've seen it could fit in a 944 as it is a 60 deg bank......Hood scoop anyone.

If it's the M70 V12 you'd need about a 5-6" scoop starting on the header panel to clear it on a 944...great engine but loooong and talllll

Honestly, there isn't anything special about the 944 motor. 5 main bearings? that's because they took a shortcut so they could retain commonality with the 928 top end castings. Alusil? they gave up on that on the 911 after only a couple years. OHC driven by a timing belt? The VW van mill that it replaced had that.
Ceramic embedded in head is modern even by todays standards, belt driven OHC is more modern than pushrod and can you guess what is common to all these engines?

Audi 2.4 V6[1][5]
Audi 3.2 FSI V6[5]
Audi 4.2 FSI V8[1][3]
Audi 5.2 FSI V10
Audi/Volkswagen 6.0 W12
BMW N52 I6
BMW M60 V8
BMW M62 V8
BMW N62 V8
BMW N63 V8
BMW M70/M73 V12[6]
Mercedes 560 SEL M117 V8
Porsche 928 V8
Porsche 924S I4
Porsche 944 I4
Porsche 968 I4
Porsche Cayenne V8[3]

Obviously AluSil is very obsolete and thats why it is used in most advanced car engines today.

Amen, the silicon content of the 928 block must weigh a ton. He's trying to figure out what to call it with the 3 in 1 combo....
