Default Well... That's the end of that. *UPDATED*

So two days ago, I finished nearly two years of restoration on my early build (Jan '86) 944 Turbo mit PowerHaus turbo, Autothority chip, MAF swap, and some Lindsay Racing components... Drove it to work yesterday for the second time ever.

Last night, I was stopped at a red light to turn left off Camden onto Hwy17 South. My light changed and I started moving forward. About 10' in, I felt an impact, looked over, and saw the headlights and bumper of a Chevy Colorado smashing my passenger side in. After spinning 540 degrees, I saw the truck start up and go flying off. A car stopped to ask if I was all right and I said "I'm fine... go get that StrekStrekStrekStreker's license plate!". At this point, the WRX-STI that was next to me at the light pulled a J-Turn and went after him along with the Chrysler 300 that stopped to ask me. I (in a flash of good thinking) turned off the fuel pump and started RUNNING down San Tomas Expwy after them.

They boxed him in at the next light, where I caught up to and jumped into the back seat of the WRX - they forced him into the Starbucks parking lot at Camden and Curtner... Where a SC County Sheriff K9 unit happened to be taking a siesta. By the time I was out of the car, the guy who had hit me was already in handcuffs. At this point, I went back to the car that I had left in the middle of an intersection and surveyed the damage:
* Passenger fender, door, and hood are all buckled
* Frame is tweaked significantly
* Only reason I'm not cut - tint held the windows together.
* Engine is pointing the wrong way, headers are crushed, radiator is gone.
* Passenger side suspension is pretzeled, axle is bent, wheel is bent, some parts are broken in half.
* Passenger seat is nonoperational, but a passenger would have been untouched.
* Glove box door is MISSING. I have no idea where it went.

I am sore on my right side, but otherwise uninjured. He is in jail for felony hit and run and (I believe) reckless driving and DWI.

The Porsche is a total loss. I have no question that if I were in many other cars, I would have been significantly injured at the very least - he hit me at near freeway speeds, completely broadside.

I have a sneaking suspicion I will be in for a fight with his insurance company. If so, I may need documentation of recent sales.

And his car...

I have been a motor cycle rider for 25 years (sport bikes riding style) and hated hearing about any one going down, so now I feel the same here, I know how much a ride can mean to an enthusiast be it 2 wheels or 4, be glad you are ok and that the other drivers helped you out to catch this drunk.
I have full coverage on my 944, and do on my current bike ( 97 Suzuki Bandit 1200) but I also carried extra insurance on that bike for all the aftermarket stuff I have into it (well over $5000) and full coverage will only cover stock parts and repairs, might be time for all of us to check our Insurance coverage.

I hope he was insured. If so, keep in mind that you may not feel the effects of such a jolt for a day or two. Don't tell the insurance company that you are AOK...
