It takes patience, patience, patience to make your first mold...

oh, dont forget the patience..

I prefer the products and pricing at www.uscomposites.com to jamestown distributors or aircraft spruce.. but to each his own... I prefer the 3:1 medium epoxy resin, but all of the us composites mixes are easy to work with...

my latest projects pale in comparison to Jans, but I am getting there... just need space and time to wrap up..

original part, wet sand it, buff it, wax the crap out of it, several times, with heavy wax (I have used johnsons paste wax), nice heavy coat of tooling gel coat, followed by a couple layers of glass / resin will get a decent mold started.. I use a foam roller to spread the resin.. and no I am not using vacuum bags yet...

Doors turned up this week. Very well made and Incredibly lite!!!!!
Feels about like picking up a couple of pillows in terms of weight.
I am hoping that they offset most of the weight for the roll cage.

I will be buying more parts from you Jan.

Love Jans work. Patrick, what did they end up costing landed in AU$, if you don't mind me asking ? The workmanship looks first class, and the kevlar reinforcement looks very solid. Your car is going to be a weapon Patrick...how is it progressing ?

I won't post the price here as Jan may want to regulate it himself but these are custom one off products. They're not mass produced. They're also made of unobtanium in that there is nothing like this available for our cars on the market. I'm excluding GT Racing because I have never seen anyone with some of their doors in c/f. GT Racing also suffers a bad reputation for their panels needing a bit of work to fit. Not sure about their doors to be fair. Add to this the cost of shipping Down Under and Customs clearance...these items are not super cheap...BUT they're cheaper than I could have had made down here and I'm sure the quality is much better than I would have found too....or way cheaper. One or the other.

Project...it's coming along...but so is Christmas....

There, FIFY. After messing with my dash, I swore I'd never do another part without vacuum bagging, ESPECIALLY the mold negative (off the OEM part). I also found that while I like cloth (woven) better, a good thick mat as one of the layers does a lot of good for you for improving rigidity.

Love what you are doing Jan. Very, very cool to see.

Default A new 951 racer coming around

This is the cage that we has done for the CF body 951 that we are doing at this moment.
It's a little bit of overkill but he wanted a really stiff and strong chassis as we are substituting the compleate body work to CF.
