Locked my pistol in the glovebox when I went into the bank. When I returned, my key wouldn't unlock the glovebox. *sigh* Got home, unscrewed the necessary trim pieces and removed the locking mechanism. I was too angry about the situation that I left it dismantled. Now I don't have time for another week to get around to putting it all back together... Sometimes life teases you with the lemons and gives you crap instead... I tell ya...

I bought my '86 after it had tangled with a low-boy trailer, that ripped the right hand side of the front valance off (among other things). I got a replacement from a boneyard in CA, and primed it before installing it. I've been driving it that way for 9 months. Last night I decided it had been long enough, so I pulled it off and sanded and prep'd it for real paint.

I had gotten a quart of matching Steingrau from the local auto paint dealer, and had it put into 16 oz. spray cans. It is DuPont ChromaBase BC, and I also bought cans of catalyzed clear coat. These dealers can put any paint into a spray can, but it costs $20/can PLUS the paint. Anyway, this morining I sprayed it, clear'd it and got it back on. Professional paint is S-O-O-O much better than Duplicolor! Looks great! Highly recommended as an alternate for panel repaint! Two shops quoted me $1,000 to respray it, I did it for less than $150. (Real paint ain't cheap)

Before & after -- still need to do a little alignment on it and install fogs

Spent way too long trying to get a new balance shaft drive sleeve on the passengers balance shaft, finally gave up and used the old one since it didn't really have any grooves from the oil seal.

So the re-do on the sheared CV bolts was a bust.
tried to get the halfshaft out of the trans to remove broken bolts, center nut (7mm?)(6mm?) allen just rounded off..... crap. So, I reinstalled the only 3 that fit.
Hopefully I can get it done tomorrow when I take the turbo to swap the transaxle in the 83. so, tomorrow I'll be under 2 rearends (in the street no less).

I hung out at ZoneFest 2010 an official PCA event, my first, and it was cool, saw a lot of beautiful 911's, some boxsters, caymans, and 356's.

Elliot (drifta944) led our way in, there was 6 of us, and when we parked (all together, of course) we were tagged "the 944 group" for the rest of the day (people called us out long after we had parked and mingled), even though we werent the only 24/44/68's out there, and none of ours were entered.

I'm hoping someone got pics, but i didn't

Trying unsuccessfully to fix a problem with the headlights not opening and closing properly. Lots of swearing, one bolt and a 10mm socket lost somewhere in the engine bay, flattened the battery not once but twice, and I think I may have cooked the headlight motor... oh, and my windscreen wash reservoir seems to be leaking...

Does anyone know if the headlight motor spins one way to open and the other way to close, or does it spin the same way to both open and close?

Spins the same direction when opening or closing, approximately 180 degrees on open or close. On my 87 944 NA (LHD) while looking a the head light motor gear box linkage arm the rotation is clockwise. I am not sure what direction it would turn south of the equator? lol

Thanks very much Yarf, that helps. Now I just need to work out what I've messed up to stop it from doing a full circuit...
