What did you do to your 924/944 today

I took my 1983 to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Oklahoma for a track day. Got in 6 15 minute sessions and the car performed great. Suspension work I have done includes: 16x7 and 16x8 Fuchs replicas on 205/55 and 225/50 BF Goodrich RE71Rs, Koni Sport shocks front and back, 200lb Weltmeister springs in front, 25.5f/18r sway bars, new front control arms with new bushings, Hawk HP Plus pads all around, new front strut bearings.
My son Eon has 944 N/A 2.5L track record there 1.28.470...., only .005 off the SP3 best....

The carbon fiber buckets are from GT racing, 90mm xenon headlight are from Hella, and the LED fog light I added it to fill in the buckets. The fog lights are wrapped in real red/black carbon fiber just for looks.

Wow
Doolittle. That’s what it’s all about. I’ve heard racing can be very addictive but I haven’t got into it yet so I cant say. It does sound like your performance mods make a difference. I want to try a track day or autocross agsinst a clock. Still finishing some safeguards on my 924s like new fuel lines to replace the factory lines that still have “1986” written on them. Got the top rail fuel line replaced already. That was leaking when I got the car.

951and944s - I barely cracked 1:46. Anything better than 1:30 is pretty fast on that track, especially considering the HP a NA is putting out, so your son's time is very good.
911Ragtop - Great idea to get some of those things squared away before hitting the track. If you have never been on a track before it can initially be a little overwhelming, but it is very satisfying to have a place where you can push your car safely.
Otto Mechanic - love the tribute!

Pulled all the fuses and relays on my 89 S2 looking for a 46millamp drain on the battery after getting tired of finding the battery low after sitting a week or so with no use Pulling the alarm system fuse dropped it 30 milliamps, the clock 4 milliamps and the radio booster 1 milliamp but the other 11 milliamps were unaccounted for until I came across this old thread. https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...-my-roots.html Looks like by-passing the alarm system (928 type) is the answer.

Was a productive day with the 951.
Replaced ball joints with the Rennbay rebuilds. Ended up not being nearly as bad as I'd feared. Pretty easy job. Time consuming, but not difficult. The ones in there didn't have any epoxy on the bottom and I feared for a moment they had already been done. But quickly realized the rebuilds have a grease fitting, the ones in there didn't, so I proceeded. I was inspecting each piece as I took them apart and was starting to worry mine were not shot, all seemed in good shape. Then I found the bottom plastic bushing (Plastic?? Really Porsche??) and both were totally shot and broken up. The Rennbay design is just such a better way to go. And no more POP!!!! Yea!!!!
Also finally got around to replacing the fuel lines with the Lindsey Racing kit I'd bought like 2 years ago. Had just been sitting on the shelf. Since I already had the tire off, and was in there anyway, figured why not! Worked out pretty well, hardest part really was the darn fender liner. Geesh those things are a pain. I did find it interesting mine had the words "Right Turbo" written in yellow marker/paint on the top. Since it was in English, I'm guessing that wasn't the factory who wrote it. More evidence this car was wrecked at some point .
Also remembered I can't floor it in 2nd when it's wet outside. I don't know why I can't remember this! The turbo hits and I'm suddenly staring down the road out the side window... While fun, one of these days I'm gonna end up in the ditch!!! Never had a car that could break the rears loose so violently at 40 mph. And I've had more than my far share of sports cars!
