Hey Spencer, I'm thinking about pulling the nose off my S2 to get at the power steering oil cooler. How long did it take you? I've never pulled mine before, not sure I need to but it looks like I will to get the entire P/S system out.

Mine takes about 1 minute per side but my car has much less "stuff" in the way than yours probably does (from the front wheels forward is all custom structure under stock outer body panels)

Oh well then Perhaps some other time I'll ask for details on that custom structure of yours....

Thanks,

Oh, so you remove the OEM distributor system.

What did you do with your triggers ?

VEMS uses the OEM reference sensors. All you have to do is to activate PIN 34/36 on EC36 via software.

Hi H.F.B.
I am thinking this would be a big improvement. I am running Peep's PnP VEMS set up with normal factory ignition. I found the coil you are using but what connector does it use ?
Did you need to use a heavy gauge wire for the positive run ?

If I do this, I will want to have everything I need before I start, as I drive my car most days and would want to minimise time off the road.
How long do you think fitting takes ?
TIA for any info.

For the coil connector you need a AMP Jnr Timer 3 Pin Female Housing 827578-1 + accessories --> http://www.compsystems.com.au/index....using-827578-1
A kit here -->https://au.bosch-automotive-shop.com...9-3-pin-female

I took the 12V from the existing old coil current supply, so I just relocated the wire from the old coil to the new coil harness. So far no problems. The other two wires I pulled through the firewall to VEMS. So basically I assembled a new harness for this. I ordered my VEMS with wasted spark option so Peep already provided an output to connect my harness. Nevertheless this was indeed a bit of labour.
The next was to mount the coil. So I cut an aluminum spacer, drilled four holes, sprayed it black, took four M6 x 50mm screws and bolted it down.
To program VEMS was the easiest part.
All in all, I started the work on it on a friday afternoon and went on the first testdrive in the evening at around 10 pm and posted my success on saturday.

Does VEMS offer a sequential spark option? Who is the source for VEMS? Still investigating MS and other options. Thanks in advance

Any advantages over waste spark vs coil on plug? Does it burn cleaner or are saturation times better?

Sequential spark aka multiple/capacitive discharge? Like this sweet thing? The bosch CD units used in the 70s sounded cool charging up before ignition. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-GENUINE-...-/371924211511

I did the conversion on my NA. I noticed that up high, the engine felt smoother. For a 951 pushing high boost, spark blowout becomes an issue...but it would have to be a lot of boost to get to that point. The main thing to me is having solid state components that simply work better, and ended up being easier to configure versus using the stock dizzy, with the ECU I chose for the car.

^^+1

And I don't like the idea that the spark must bridge a gap in the distributor housing. This inevitably reduces the spark strength at the plug. So the spark is less effective at igniting the fuel and giving a clean burn. The WS-coil does not run short on charge over the entire rev range of the 944/951, since it has to feed only two spark plugs. It has a newer coil design and charges very fast, so you could even reduce dwell time.

Tech: The 944 / 951 Ignition System.

Finished replacing the water pump and front seals. Had a loud lifter but a quick drive fixed that right up. I used to daily drive my 944 (over 5 years!) but I no longer have to so it's nice being able to take my time on maintenance and repairs now.

Installed 924 gauges in the 944. Also took the new front end out of the other 944. Trying to get one done for Wolfsgart in 2 weeks.
