Just finished up redoing the whole front end suspension and tie rods/ends on my 84. Had dead shocks, dead struts, wore out strut mounts, and a disastrous sway bar install ( was upside-down which damaged the control arms ), crusty ball joints, and cracked bushings all around.
Also learned I had a proper manual steering rack, as opposed to a de-powered unit, must have been a swap.
Shoving the rubber bushings on the sway bar and installing that, WORST thing I've had to do on this car, would rather change the timing belt and water pump. maybe.
Took it to work as the first maiden voyage after 2 weeks of work...suspension, wiring, motor mounts, tuning, and some alternator issues. Drive and runs awesome but the brakes feel super sh***y. They started feeling soft after I did my front wheel bearings last month but now they're downright unsafe. Who wants to bet my Rock Auto reman Volvo calipers are the issue. Master checks out ok and I fully bled the system with ATE TYP 200 a few months ago.
Dear Pfarah7: After talking with V2Rocket, and looking at all the crap in the footwell I'll have to remove to get to it....I chickened out...I hit it with my dremel and squirted some de-rusto solution on it..probably a watered down naval jelly in a squirt bottle, and it came out all clean on the rusted areas. I dried it off and rinsed it off with water after plugging the M/C hole...I haven't been back to my shop in a couple of days due to a blown out L knee, but hope to hit it with some paint tomorrow or Friday. I did however, pick up several powdercoated parts for the rear end down in Hartford, so that will be back together soon I hope..this rear end/rear brake ordeal has taken waayy too long IMHO....~:>((
Buttoned up the install of a new-to-me S2 transaxle and actually-new GKN CV axles (which are HUGE, by the way. No worries about these suckers breaking) and new rear speakers.
I'd been putting off the speaker install because it involves taking out the rear quarter windows, but it actually is pretty easy to remove and reinstall those.
Got just a few little tasks on the to do list to prep the car for a nice road trip to Virginia. I'm being sent out to Charlottesville for work and wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to hit some nice twisty Appalachian roads on the way!
Thanks! It's always nice to get a chance to take the 944 out into some nice roads in the hills, and I haven't been to this part of the country before. I'll be down there for two weeks so I have a free weekend and I plan to spend a whole day exploring backroads.
Trying to decide what to do with these burgundy script sport seats I bought locally on impulse.
My interior is 'light grey', so I was originally planning to recover them, but they seem to be rare and might actually clean up okay using steam or other means.
