Another idea. The 16 valve cars have a hall sensor right behind the upper timing belt pulley. Make sure that is bolted back in properly and the connector is plugged in correctly. That can probably cause spark problems as well.

the plastic around that connector broke apart..so i am not sure which was it plugs in but i tried both sides..
If you need a spare DME i have a late model DME but it's not for an S. If it will work and you need something to check with I'll ship it to you but you gotta promise to ship it back.

saids it will,but i am not sure you want it..it is a little smaller then stock and gets in the way of seeing if the turn signals are on..u cant see the light flashing..and the turn signals stop turning off on most corners..
--cant' see the 'bottom' one too well. Is it connected to a harness? Maybe it's just a plug to fill the whole? Cant' remember - haven't been in there for a while. But I am certain there is only one combination sensor used for the S that generates both signals (gets ref from a notch in the speed 'gear')
