944Fest 2008 - A few closing words from the host.
The books are closed on another 944Fest and I would like to extend a heart felt thanks for everyone who helped make it possible this year. Dan left me with some pretty "big" shoes to fill, and despite a few bumps here and there, I think everything went extraordinarily well??
Just to look back at a few of the highlights...
Special Tool came out and hit the dyno with us.
We were in the presence of 4+ 3.0L Turbos including one 16v 968 Turbo.
We ran the track at MidOhio (with a NASCAR truck!!)
944Cup racing... need I say more?
Rock received the much anticipated "That Guy" award.
People spit out fire and others did a mid air front flip over it.
We had multiple noise complaints by non-fest attendees
We befriended the security guard administering these complaints and talked him into midnight track tours in the security truck
and... all in all we had a really great time.
Now, the one thing that we need to recognize is our sponsors for this year, namely our title sponsor Lindsey Racing. All of the kegs, the fire pit, the event tent and not to mention the $1000 in gift certificates were all paid for or donated by Dave Lindsey at Lindsey Racing. Their total contribution for this years 944Fest was in excess of $2500 and I can tell you we would not have had a 944Fest without them. So, what I want everyone to do that was at this year's 944Fest is give Dave Lindsey a call at 1-877-943-3565 and let him know just how much you appreciate what his company did for you. In addition, it would be a nice gesture to drop an email to any one of our other sponsors (listed on www.944fest.com) and let them know you had a good time, especially if you were the recipient of one of their door prizes. If you need a contact name to talk to for any of our sponsors just let me know.
Since this was a year of many firsts for the 944Fest, let me just add one more. I have already started sorting out a few possible venues for next year's 944Fest and I would like the peoples opinion on where it should be held. Please keep an eye out on Rennlist for a poll thread and please do not blindly vote. Consider distance, facility quality, and all the aspects of the possible move before you make a choice. After all, it is the people that come who make up the 944Fest and not the event itself.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for coming and especially all those who went out of your way to help with this year's 944Fest. See you all again next summer.

Travis,
As you say - the shoes were big. But if anyone could do it, it is you. This year's Fest was great in so many ways. I want to thank you and all of your sponsors for another great time.
There were a few minor SNAFUs behind the scene. But all in all, everything came off well. And as you say - it's really the people that make the Fest what it is. Even if things aren't totally rosie, we all tend to pull together and find a way to have a good time.
Thanks again for a great event. I especially enjoyed the fact that I was finally able to share this one with my girlfriend and her very own 944. We're both looking forward to next year.
Cowbell 3 will be ready. Will you?

I called LR and left a msg for Dave Lindsey, and he called me back!! Sounds like a super guy, and even though I only have thier Recirc. Valve, I am happy that he at least called back. He was very gracious for donating what he did, and maybe Vincent will donate me a set of rod bearings for my fall/winter build!! Just for being a nice guy of course...

Sooooooooooooo... I'll be there next year... I was talking to a friend of mine (who wanted to go this year but I asked her too late ) and was talking about the possibility of not going next year if it's at VIR... because from Colorado to Virginia is a HELL of a drive. she's like, "I'm going with you." "I might not go next year...."
"Why?"
"It might be in virginia!"
"SO?!"
<pause>
"God damn it girl! you have such good logic!"
so... I'll be there! Hats of to Travis, and all of the vendors! Thanks for putting on a hell of a show!

I'm getting close to retirement and have put 944 Fest on my bucket list. I wish we had something similar out here. Many people have talked about doing one but how can anyone top the real thing? Congrats on another great event and the pics say it all.
