This is the mystery 951 that no one will touch. It's been discussed on several forums. Mainly because that 160 speedo/odometer did not come on an 88 TurboS. It is probably still a low mile car but the owner will not provide any valid info on the mileage. For that money and ambiguity most knowledgeable buyers will stay away.

the other that gets me to is the coolant tank is very white and looks brand new. I figure even if that was the original milage on the car the coolant tank would have some discoloration from sitting so much. Also like Steve stated eariler all '88 951S came with a 180MPH speedo. I also noticed rust on the inside of the exhaust tip which tells me atleast that it probably at one point had be exposed to snow/ice and road salt. I would stay away from this car. After looking at the pictures more this car also doesn't look like it has the M030 option. its hard to tell but it looks like regular US ride hide to me. VIN number tells me it is a Turbo S. though

i'de buy it if i had money even if its isnt what it says, it is way cleaner then you usually see. and i dont see why some rust on the inside of the exhaust pipe signifies its been in winter. florida cars will get rust on their rotors, just makes me think condensation. sticker price shows 49k so i'de think its pretty well optioned

aren't those green strips on suspension that are visible on the engine picture proof that this is M030?

the coolant tank discoloration comes from continous heat/cold situations and dirty coolant, not just from sitting arround.

I belive this is genuine mileage since pictures tell a lot.

it certainly is gorgeous though...

either they had the entire car completely reconditioned or it is legit.

it is way too clean to be older.

This car does not have the equalizer under the stereo that came standard on the TS and '89 951.

It also seems to have the headlight washers. IIRC the TS did not have washers and just body colored plugs.

Then the seller has to account for and explain the obvious speedometer swap. Speedometers don't just fail on a 9200 mile car. The seller is asked about the speedometer question and says it is original? He has his choice of either saying the speedo was swapped or it really isn't a Turbo S which I assume it is. It's really that simple. It's a beautiful car, heavily detailed, but would you spend that much knowing something that effects the odometer reading is wrong? Good documentation is only as good as the physical verification of equipment on the car...in this case there is a serious anomaly even if the car looks near perfect.

In addition all of the zinc dichromate plating under the hood is seriously faded; that doesn't happen from just sitting in a garage for 18 years and not being driven only 9200 miles.

Honestly, besides the fact that I have rock chips due to 90k of summer driving, my car is as clean as this one, inside and out ! That is why I'll keep it, nobody will ever want to pay what it's really worth for !

Default Lowest Mileage Cluster

Maybe I should sell my car with ultra low mileage! Those with a sharp eye will see the ultra rare upshift light in the tach!

Why not ask for a pic of the TS gussett in the engine bay?

some other things of note....the tires; they are almost new if not new, so obviously the seller slapped on a cheap pair real quick, but why? By the looks of things everything is original (except the speedo), so why put on new tires, I'm sure they weren't that bad after 9,200 miles. And if they had gotten bad (or flatspotted from sitting) I'm sure the PO would have replaced them, so why are these on there. Also i noticed the rear tires are 245/50/16, i believe they are supposed to be 245/45/16. Anyways the whole tire thing didn't really say much, i just felt like critizing. Also where the rear bumper meets the left rear bumper cap it looks as if there is a light color of paint, maybe evidence of a respray with ****ty prep work? Also the little black cap that covers the nut on the rear wiper arm is missing. However the car does indeed have MO30, as evident by the front sturts from the engine photo, and in one of the photos of the rims you can see a flash of a yellow koni. Sorry if i said anything dumb i just felt like saying things because this car is nicer than mine.
