...is it that 75% of other drivers upon noticing a 944 feel the need to speed up, tailgate or just otherwise act like total idiots? not talking just ricers...its guys in honda elements, pick up trucks, econoline vans, saturns the list goes on!
why?? what is it about this NON fast car that entices people so?

Same here. There's also somebody always telling me they seen me somewhere, or telling a friend or relative they seen me... Don't know why I'm so well known since its a 20 year old 140hp pile-o-problems.

I have the same issue when driving the 928. It's really annoying, and in some cases outright dangerous. This hardly ever happens to me when I drive the Saab...
So what is it? Do they hope the Porsche-ness rubs off on their car or driving style? Do they feel "safe" following a car that can go faster (and brake faster) than theirs? (I doubt many realize how quick a Porsche can stop, though)
Interesting question for the Psychologists...

I not only get all of those Bay Area tailgaters, I get all of those idiots that don't ever want to let you merge or change lanes. I thought my blinkers were burned out for a week until I checked them. Nope, just rude drivers. Had a lady in a Mercedes who wouldn't let me merge even though I was coming up on a solid divider and had no other choice, then when I got in front of her she honked her horn, flashed her lights and stuck out her middle finger. Nice people they've got around here..

I haven't exactly "been around" but I lived in socal for about a year and compared to there, the traffic in the SF area is a whole lot ruder and dumber.
Yes the %$&$#*ing trucks blind me. Surprisingly so do Priuses though so I don't know what to say about that.
When I had my 944 I'd get some of the ricers and many other idiots getting on my nerves. In my 968, I get less general idiots and almost every 350Z. STILL no nods from 911-folk. However even in my benz I still get idiots and jerks alike.

I hate retards that don't let you merge, even when you're sitting there with your blinker going for minutes.
I also hate people are too stupid to control their speed, and just match whatever speed the car next to them is doing, even if it causes them to speed up by 15mph.

I usually give a nice short 1/4 second stab of the brakes.. just enough that they see the physics of my car baking hard and the third brake lgiht helps.. so they panic and slam theirs. In reality I only slowed enough for them to gain a foot or so distance on me, as to not cause an accident, but it gets their adrenaline pumping a little and usually sparks their brain activity to realize the severity of what they are doing.

What's the deal with pick up trucks? Why do they all drive 20+ mph over the speed limit? I get passed by more of those than anything else. Talk about vehicles least suited to go that fast....
