My saga begins: I'm getting my neighbor's 944 Turbo
#227
So I asked him to give me the Turbo and I'd get it running to turn it into a track car. He will be able to drive it any time he wants. He said OK.
So, I know nothing about 944's, but I want a track car that is similar to my S2000. I've autocrossed it quite a bit and taken it to the track once, but I want a safer car before I head back to the track again. Rather than roll-bar, seats, and harnesses in the S, which will make it a poor daily driver, I'll put it into this 944 Turbo, which should perform similarly (both front engine four's with similar horsepower, rear drive, good balance, etc.).

Some help
Any idea of what any of this stuff might be worth? I was going to do a for sale thread, but wanted to put in prices, and have no idea. Most of the stuff will be "Free to Good Home".
But, I think the seats may be reasonably valuable. Are these "Script Sports"?
The spare tire is unused, but doesn't appear to be mounted on the rim. I also have the compressor.
The floor mats are in good shape.
The console is in good shape.
The cargo cover is working well, although it needs some paint.
Any help on how to price this stuff is appreciated.
Oh and if you're interested in anything else, just let me know (I'll be keeping the jack, rear seats (my daughter wants me to make a couch for her room out of them!), the rear speakers). You cover packaging/shipping and it's yours.

So, the front/back power height adjustments indicate that it is a Sport seat?
If so, my driver's side is a sport and my passenger is not. Is that the norm? Unusual?

I can't believe i just read that whole thing. I hardly know about cars, and this post inspires me to learn much more. Thanks teamking for undertaking this project, you are truly an inspiration.

Yeah i've read the whole thread too and it makes for quite the interesting read.
Best of luck on turning her into a track beast. Do some basic mods on the car suspension, tires, make sure the engine is up to date on maintance and then drop some weight from it.
You will be surprised at how well they perform out there.

Wow very impressive TK ! You definitely posess extreme talent in bringing that car back to life. My first Pcar was a 1987 944S which I purchased in 1999. Soon after I purchased a Boxster S and realised It was cheaper to make new car payments than to keep the 944 in top condition.I discoverd the message boards due to that car, so much could go wrong with the 944S that one of the most knowledgeable declared the car as almost like maintaining a helicopter and boy was he ever right. This is the only car I know of that you change the timing belt almost as much as the oil. But that all being said I do miss the old 944 and wish you the best of luck with your car.
