Turbo Cups, as delivered, weighed about 2750-2800 lbs w/o driver. PCA race weight is 2920 w/ driver. My car was over 2500 lbs with completely stripped interior, no headlight assembly, fiberglass rear bumper, lexan, gutted doors, etc.

Who would have thought they were that heavy. My 944 spec, which still has headlights and rubber bumper pads, weights 2620 with me and about 1/4 tank of gas. And I'm not that light.

944 CUP CAR VINs
I have a good friend who thinks he may have stumbled upon one of the original 944 Cup Cars. Is there a list of all of the VINs of all of the original factory cup cars anywhere?

Don't know about other years, but this post (in this long thread) lists the last six digits of the VIN numbers of the nine US and two Canada 1987 Turbo Cup cars.

Can anyone tell me if this VIN number is a Cup Car? WP0AA0953GN150066
Unlike the 87 US Cups and the 88 Canadian Cup, its hard to confirm a unique series of VIN numbers for the 1986 Cup/Clubsports imported to the US for the Escort series. And I don't think there is even full documentation available to determine the exact number that were imported in 86. Somewhere around 7-9, with likely at least two additional street cars that were converted to near Cup specs by PMNA (Al Holbert's shop).
Carlsen
Hurst (2)
Sewickley
Baker
Nelson
Holbert
Follmer
Bogan (street car)
Matthewson (street car)
The 3 VIN numbers that I know of are xxx150345 which was the Holbert/Cannon car, xxx154080 which was Rick Hurst's white car, and xxx154076 which is the Follmer/Hightower/Hawkins car that sold at the Gooding Drendel auction.
Which car does he think he has? Cup features and/or any documentation with it? Option codes? What color is it?

As already mentioned, getting the COA would be key...and then matching it with an actual race logbook. Unfortunately, I'm finding that not very many have the pair together.

I can't find the link here on rennlist, but there was a thread within the past couple years on a porsche dealership that offered on-line VIN checks for free. I tried it at the time, and it gave a 1 page printout that offered option codes and other info like the engine SN and trans SN for the given VIN.
It was actually more accurate than the Porsche CoA for my car. If you do a search here on rennlist, you will find complaints about errors in CoAs, I specifically recall a 911 guy becoming somewhat irrate because of errors. The CoA that came w/ my car shows the options include "High Gloss Turbo Look 18 in. Wheels", and "Module for Telephone PCM". So somewhere over the years, some option codes have been changed or reused, and the CoA spits out the current description of the option code, not what it was in the 1980's. Not sure if Porsche North America has fixed that problem by now.

Paul,
Question came up on the Turbo board the other day, guy in Europe was asking about boost levels he can run when using French Cup chips.
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...ferrerid=15894
Having read and been warned that the Escort "power" chips have very aggressive ignition timing, I have only used them on the track w/ race gas (100+oct), up to around 15-16 psig. Not sure how safe they are on the street w/ pump gas at any boost level, without risk of detonation (HG or valve damage). My guess is that they would be fine at near stock boost, or even somewhat higher, but I don't have actual experience trying that, and don't want to offer bad advice.
I don't recall if you have answered this here before - over the years, have you always used race gas (mix or straight), or have you reliably used straight pump gas in your car, both street and/or track use? At what boost level(s)?

Don't trust the original knock control system on these cars. You can drive around w/ the knock sensor unplugged and the KLR doesn't know it. The knock counters do not offer very useful data as it is hard to determine accuracy or validity of the pings/counts - I found it to be nearly worthless.
