Project: Fixed Headlights

I'm not that fond of the "bubble" either, but we'll see what happens with it once we get one fabricated (tonight or tomorrow). Mike is supposed to let me know approx how much steel we'll need before I buy a sheet.

The bubble should be insignificant in that respect, plenty of stock cars use headlights with the "bubbles" I just think it looks like crap.

I really don't know much about optics though, just a thought that popped into my head.

I think this is a really cool project and can't wait to see them finished.
Did you look at fiat coupe headlights to convert as an option?
A friend of mine just got one of these and I'm going to see if the lights could be adapted (not the bubble covers though - I'd make clear perspex covers like the GT ones.
Cheers

is it possible, to instead of having the lights right where the originals swing, to just move them back and under the hood? might make it look kinda sinister. and you can have ease of trying to make bubbles to clear the lights...and forget about if the bubbles would throw off the light. maybe it would help out on the heat issue and lexan also. but i guess you would run into the fact of moving intake piping around.....anything new on this lately?

Carl,
IMHO, its going to be super easy to fab them up. However to fit them and make minor changes is going to be the hard part. I'm hoping to have this fab'd up and test fitted by the end of the week.

I was thinking of making mine out of half sheet metal and half plexiglass or lexan...
I am trying to figure out the way the headlights angle to match the body lines, could I sand out the lower portion some if i do use lexan?

Hey Wes,
I haven't read all 8 pages of this thread but have you considered getting a solid front nose panel that deletes the stock headlights like the racers use (GT-Racing product number 297 for example) and then "graft" in a set of lights from a production car?
I'm thinking of going that route and will be getting some measurements for fixed lights off a 300zx, Mitsu 3000GT and aftermarket ones for the RX-7. Most of these headlight assemblies can be found on e-bay for a couple hundred dollars and the nose panel cost around $250. Just a thought.

Wes, sounds good. Should I start removing the stock stuff, i.e. are you sure this is going to work?
