Not too bad.
That's what I'm talking about. That looks SO MUCH BETTER than the stock popups!!

Anyone else notice the SM Chevy under the hood???

I'm thinking of fitting the Audi A6 bi-xenon projectors into mine, make the headlights only popup until they are level on top, instead of going all the way up, allows a lot more depth to mount projectors. Fixed headlights would work for them as well. They're awesome lights, and you can get a used set for under $300.

"the supra guys used to install HID lights that were very short and the headlights would only flip up a few inches vs. the 6 or more inches the factory lights flip up, but this would be harder on a 44"

You just shorten the lever arm that the motor spins to lessen the pop-up height. Do a search for "snake eyes headlight mod", it's very popular with the 3000GT/VR4/Stealth group..

I made a setup with the Audi HIDs for lows and normal for highs, I planned to run all four bulbs on high beams. The lights did need to be staggered for clearance and the buckets extended by 2.25 inches for rear clearance. I've been pettling the idea of fittting them in anyway. The extra room they needed was the room I cleared for intake plumbing and a crankcase vent canister. For the price from GT, the buckets were not worth it, maybe for 50 or so bucks, they would be a start. I did get them mounted and the covers fixed with no major problems, the fit nice the way I've done them and I've swapped bulbs in them twice now and it only took about 10 mins to do. I may get into fabbing my own buckets and just go with the HIDs, sounds like a cheap project for me this summer.

I have pretty poor lighting from the off the shelf driving lights that I used.

Just a lil update so you all don't think i'm leaving you hanging here. My friend Mike and I edited the design in solid works again with a mounting bracket for the Hella's. It appears that they'll mount flush, but then again we'll have to wait and see. ( I have a pic, but not here)

Thanks to Matt H, I should have a set of Hella's here to test fit by the end of the week. Look for another update this weekend.

They should be there tomorrow. They are coming FEDEX (pm for tracking number) but I made it signature required (dont know where you live but in some places leaving a package on the front door step is bad news). Insured for 500 bucks so if they dont show up or they are broken let me know.

Don't let the naysayers get you down. *In my opinion* fixed headlights are way cool. I personally think the pop-ups look sort of dorky, especially the frog-eyes on the 928. Alot of people like the vintage look, but I prefer sleek and clean, which pop-ups are NOT.

In any event, none of my 3 porsches are the kind of car I care about keeping original. I'm no porshce-a-phile. I just want an inexpensive but very unique platform I can have some fun with without having a me-too ricer knock-off. So far, the 924, 931, and 928 have totally filled the bill, and as far as I know, they're the only examples of each in my home town.

In any event, My924gtc and I have a working prototype off of my 931 wide body that we will be perfecting over the summer. Should work for both the 924 and 944 with no worries. We even have the mounting problem figured out.

Wes, keep up the good work, and be sure to post back with your progress.

Matt,
Wow sorry bud didn't even see the replys. Nope not yet, I live in the country and they won't leave anything without a signature or a signed fedex form telling them to leave it.

One think ive thought of is that if the only reason for fixed lights is to get rid of the big bar, it should be doable to give each of the lights their own motor. Best bet would prolly be a servo motor, a la remote control cars and such. Limited range of motion, but insane amounts of torque from a small package, and the built in ability to control position and such (so the lights pop up evenly).

That isnt the only reason. Decreased weight, simplification, etc. Two motors would add weight to the system and you would run the very real risk of GM "winky eye syndrome" as I like to call it. the goal is not to make it harder but to make it easier and remove crap from the front. If this doesnt work out I am just buying a set from GT Racing and modifying them to fit my lights.

Around these parts I'm known as fossil_fuel but yeah we are working on the same project. Going to focus heavily on the mounting side of the problems inherent in the other kit.
