I'll keep bumping this from time to time as I really want this to happen.

Luis, LOL I'm working on it but if this happens I'll definately go this route instead.

Oh and from my emails with Carl he seems like a real class act.

That's right, you would prefer your car to be slow.

I have had three of you very nice 944 owners contact me now, and offer their doner cars in one fashon or another. There was a little confusion about price or cost and I wanted to post this to help produce a better understanding.

We have already designed and built supercharger kits for 2 models that "they" said could not be supercharged: the K-Jetronic CIS 928, and the L-Jet. I am certain we can get the 944 done.

Can we get the 944 supercharged with the air consitioning still intact? That I am not so suere about. The boyz at Linsdey and Huntley are/were no slouches (I know them both) and I am concerned why they were not able to keep the AC intact. But, frankly, I should know that within the first hour or two of having a donar car in my hands.

Will we supercharger the doner car for free? No. Can't afford to. Although we make a lot of our own parts (and that is not free either) there are quite a few we have to BUY. The Supoercharger head unit, the blow-off valve, the belts, pulleys - come to mind. I am running a business here.

Will the doner car own get a discount? Absolutely. I have also done that with my other customers when we developed items for their cars.

What do I think the kit will come in at? Well, I pencilled in a few of the parts I know we will need from my experience supercharging other Porsche's:

1 Powerdyne BD-600 supercharger head unit
7 Supercharger mounting bolts, 3/8" x 16 x 1" long, stainless
1 928M Aluminum supercharger outer mounting bracket
1 928M CIS or L Jet Intake adapter
1 928M Crankshaft Pulley with sheaves for AC, PS, Alternator, and EGR
3 928M Stainless steel spacers - 98 mm long
1 928M steel inner supercharger bracket
1 928M 45 degree steel elbow with PCV nipple
1 928M 90 degree elbow with 3/4"" pop off valve nipple
1 928M oil control tee
1 928M upper supercharger reinforcement bracket
1 928M polishe aluminum intake tube
2 3 1/2" worm drive hose clamps, size 56"
2 3" worm drive hose clamps, size 52"
2 3" piece of 3/4"" hose for the blow off valve
4 #16 worm gear hose clamps for the blow-off valve
1 3" x 3"" blue silicone straight connector tubing
4 pieces blue silicone hose connectors
1 9 psi or 6 psi supercharger pulley
1 Belt tensioning idler pulley
2 Belt tensioner bolts, 3/8" x 16 x 1" long, stainless w Nylock nuts
1 Gates 6-rib supercharger belt
1 K&N air filter
1 New Hardened crankshaft pulley bolt 18x1.5x60mm 10.9 hardness
1 Blow off valve
1 Blow off valve breather cap
1 Supercharger intake
8 T bolt 3 1/4" hose clamps

...and will possibly also need:
1 928M Aluminum Radiator Top Air Dam
1 A-pillar gauge pod to hold 2 gauges
1 Digi/Analog air fuel gauge
1 Digital Oxygen sensor
1 Digi/Analog boost pressure gauge
1 Digital pressure sender
2 10" Electric high-volume radiator fans
Various hoses, clamps, and wires

...and if intercool it, add:

1 928M Intercooler
1 Heat exchanger (Radiator)
12 12 feet of 14 gauge red wire
1 12 gauge blade style fuse holder
1 15 amp fuse
1 30 amp relay
1 21 GPM, 3 Amp external water pump
14 #12 worm gear hose clamps
Aluminum tubing and hose, moire wire and more clamps.

My Guess: I bet we can come in under other kit prices for the 944. My target for the kit would be somthing like $3995.00

If a Doner agrees to this, I'd ask them to drop a deposit of $2000 off when they drop off their car. Of course, we will use that to buy parts for the project, and it is refundable if we discover that we cannot leave the Air Conditioning in place too.

I cannot take a doner car into the shop for this until March or April - to much kit work going on.

I hope this answers some of your questions.

BTW - for those that think that $3,900 is still too much, please consider that the head unit alone is $1700 of that...

The two SC 928's at that show were Todd's (red car - not a kit setup) and Tim Murphy's (Murf 928 kit). The 32 valve kit on Carl's site is Tim Murphy's kit.

quick correction - SFR used a centrifugal SC that did delete AC, however, huntley used a roots blower with custom intake manifold and did not delete AC.

aside from that . . . wahooooo! i really hope this works out. and i should be in a good position to make the investment about the time the kits are hitting the market.

Wow great news Carl, that price point is awesome considering your extensive parts list. I'm getting excited already. Does anyone in or around WI have a donor S2? I can't ship mine there from CT becuase I need it to get places. Freakin awesome news though.

I am totally in when the kit is complete. After buying a v12 BMW I am addicted to power. My 944 needs a serious boost.

I have received some e more very good questions that I thought you may all like to see.

What kind of discount can the guy with the Donor car expect? The owner of the car that we develop on will be expected to pay for all the parts we have to buy and make - those are just hard costs I cannot cut. However, I can reduce the soft costs - labor. It is going to take longer to make the first one.... we all know that, and I do not like to penalize the donor guy for this. Typically, I do the labor at 50% of our normal rate. Our normal shop rate is $60 an hour, so the donor guy would get his kit built and installed for $30.00/hr.

The donor guy will not be charged for any time we spend photographing or writing the installation guide. I put a voice recorder on the fender as I install the kit, and my secretary types it up, and we edit it, and we get an installation manual out of it. The last one I did for the 928 turned out to be 60 pages and 144 pictures. No charge. We have a link where you can download the first section of that manual in Adobe Acrobat about 2/3rds down the page here:
http://www.928motorsports.com/whybuy.html

What pre-supercharger installation things should I do to my car? Great question. You may want to download and read the article we wrote entitled:
"THE RULES ABOUT SUPERCHARGING YOUR 928" that article is available here:
http://www.928motorsports.com/superchargingrules.html

I would add - make sure you clutch is in proper repair, and that any significant engine oil leaks have been resolved.

Hi QuickCarl,
Yes I agree with what you said. I did not factor in the emission
test. Regarding the Whipple supercharger, I've seen one installed
on a 944 s2 making 400hp with an intercooler ofcourse & like you
said it required new intake etc. What about the Rotrex supercharger ?
It's very effecient & compact.

Count me in when it's developed!!!! The pricing at >$4K is very fair relative to the other kits out there and if it's intercooled alowing AC I'm there (I'm in AZ and don't want to die of flash burns in the summer). On another note, Joe C from Las Vegas was in town to auction his 951 (Powerhaus built beast....) and gave me a ride in it yesterday. Damn good thing it has leather seats as we hit 152 on the 101... I was thinking my chipped S2 was relatively quick until yesterday. I need that supercharger...!

I spent months researching this and was prepared to spend the money. Supercharging of Knoxville already produces a kit that retains the A/C. He uses a Paxton centrifugal blower and is extremely knowledgable. The factory bracket that holds the A/C compressor and the alternator is replaced by the SoK that holds those items plus the blower. The price is $3695 non I/C.

I finally decided against this as the centrif. is a compromise. The 944 *needs* a positive displacement blower. The problem is, do to that right would require big $$.

I asked Paul if he could retool for an Eaton or Auto-rotor twin screw, and he said yes, but he believed there just wasn't an interest from the 944 comunity to justify the expense.

I don't mean to be a pessimest, and I hope Carl can produce an outstanding kit!

Either way, I want to talk. SFR's kit is too $$ and I need the AC. If someone comes near Carl's price for a viable kit that retains the EC I want to know about it. Also the IC is important and I'm also considering an aquamist system to further cool it.
