Angry Porsche Garage Can't Find Whats Wrong With Car - HELP?!

Hey guys,

I got my '86 944 NA back from the garage and they could NOT find what was wrong with it.

My car has been "stalling" constantly. I start it up, go a few blocks and it stalls. I try starting it and it wont start. I wait 30 seconds and try starting it again and it starts, goes a few more blocks and the same thing goes on.

So I brought it to the garage. I had it brought to the garage on a flat bed. When I started it to put it on the flat bed it stalled once. When I took it off the flat bed and into the garage's driveway, it stalled twice.

But when the mechanics took it for several test drives IT NEVER STALLED?!?!?!?

I picked it up yesterday and drove it all over, parked in parking lots came out later, started it and drove all over and IT NEVER STALLED.

Now today I start it and THE SAME THING HAPPEDNS. It goes a few blocks and stalls again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone PLEASE have an idea as to what the **** is going on?!?!?!

Thanks as always

Just a guess but it could be you need a new DME, thats if you've checked all the usual suspects.

sucks, thats how problems always are. doesn't happen when you bring it to them, but always does for you. I bet youll pick it up and drive it away and stall as soon as you get a few blocks away.

Just start progressively going through Hanes and testing everything, pretty much all you can do.

So.. it only stalls when you drive it, huh? Hmmm Maybe it's not the car!

Probably need to bring us up to date again with everything you have checked / replaced.

I too would agree to look at DME unit (not the relay) and/or the sensors at the flywheel. I had a very intermittent stalling going over a bump. Not every bump, not most bumps, just this one particular bump. It did turn out to be the reference sensor. The connections on them alone can be a problem, much less the insane tolerance gapping procedure.

So, either link us back to the original thread or list what's been done since the last time you posted about this.

Good luck, let us know.....

Nothing was done to it at the garage because they said it wouldnt stall for them.....

Here's some more info on the problem:

I can start the car right off the bat in the morning.....It will "chug" for about 2-3 seconds and then idle normally. If I rev the engine around 4000 rpm for about 5 seconds while being parked after I start it, the engine stalls and I cant get it started again - it just keeps turning over. If I wait for about 15 minutes and go to start it again, it starts right off the bat again. If I rev it again at 4000 rpm for 5 seconds it stalls again and the whole thing starts over again.......

That help anymore?

I'd check, inthis order, the DME, reference sensors, and coil. Just my $.02

Ok, so I ordered a new DME relay today. Is that what you meant?

Where are the reference sensors and how do I check them and what am I looking for?

Thanks as usual.

I think everyone is talking about the DME itself... not the relay.
