Hi, my name's Jeff and I'm an alc. . . oh wait. . . Never mind. Wrong introduction.

Yea, I'm Jeff, age 34. Spoken for. No kids. No drugs.
Architect (still apprenticing technically, but working on that. . .)

non-P-car related interests include aviation (I've flown as an instructor and a commercial pilot in my former lives), distance running, camping or pretty much anything to do with the outdoors and appreciation for nature and its beauty, mountain biking, etc. Or just hanging around drinking with buddies. . .

Porsche genesis:

Geez. . . I think I've always LIKED them. One of my earliest car "toys" (really a metal scale model) that wasn't a Matchbox-type car was a 959. I absolutely love that car. I saw my first 944 while on the way to go ice skating at a pond in the town where I grew up (near Boston). Fell in love instantly. . . I was like "wow - that's a Porsche! Someone around here owns a Porsche! WICKED!!!" I've always loved the lines and look of the 924 / 944 / 968 as well as the 911 "whale tails". I hope to pick up one of those at some point also.

I went through my stint of owning crappy cars and not realizing that I really COULD HAVE owned a P-car earlier. My litany of former junk includes a '77 Camaro, a '78 Firebird, a '83 Mustang GT (actually kinda' liked that one), a Isuzu Impulse (forget the year), a Dodge Daytona (ditto), a GMC truck and I think one or two others that were "shared property".

Anyway upon moving to LA in 1999 I quickly realized that my GMC truck was highly inappropriate for the city and the urban lifestyle. I kind of wanted to get a CAR earlier but hardly ever drove at first (within cycling distance of my job) and my wife had a car so it was never a priority. I eventually did get a motorcycle (which I still have, fulfilling another long-term interest / dream) for around-town jaunts here. VERY good choice - immune to LA traffic. That alone is worth it!

Anyway I was looking around casually considering various cars one day after once again not being able to fit into a local parking garage because my effin' truck was too tall and it's difficult to carry groceries and stuff on a bike. I could not believe it when I was told I could buy a PORSCHE for under $3k. I was stunned. All my childhood memories of that first white 944 I saw and the occasional other ones afterwards (that ALWAYS got my attention) came back. I had to have it. I bought it unquestioningly and as they say, the rest is history. I got instantly hooked by the car, the "subculture" they have, the intellectual satisfaction of figuring them out and being able to work on them efficiently and understanding the engineering that makes them an example of "Porsche excellence". I still think that's my primary reason for being so addicted to these forums - they exemplify the whole "Porsche culture" and a lot of what the experience of owning one (and later TWO) is for me.

On that note, shortly after getting my first love (the '85 n/a) I HAD to figure out what options were to (1) make it truly unique and distinctive and (2) give it incredible performance - even more than it had to start with. The Callaway turbo conversion was just the ticket. I was shocked when I was actually able to find one and consider it a labor of love. I swear I'll never sell that car. It'll go to one of my nephews one day - if they prove their "Porsche-worthiness". The 951 I'm not so sure about. I love it and all, but consider it more of a fun daily driver and something that I have a little more "vehicle equity" in for an eventual trade up to maybe an S2 cab or a 911 of some sort. I do like it and it was a good find, but I absolutely love my early '85 - even more than the 951. Call me nuts.

I could write a huge essay on this (and I'm sort of famous for that on these boards too!) but I'll spare you. Suffice to say I now lament all the wasted years in other marquees! I'll never go back. Okay, MAYBE a BMW or Mercedes at some point, but that's it. I see myself as having a P-car - at least one - until they pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Hobbies: Making things and entreprenurial exploits, skiing, saxophoning, and most of all, DRIVING!

Porsche story: When my mom was pregnant with me my dad had a brightass red 356, and they had it till I was about a year old. When I was still in gradeschool he had a 911SC, and I loved everthing about the car. I didn't care for the front engine cars much (mostly because of 924 horror stories about the '78 my dad bought new) until I was in highschool and started reading about the 944s handling traits and improvements. The look grew on me very much, and I knew I had to have one some time. Fast forward till after college graduation, I was looking either for an e30 M3, and an S2. I saw a good deal on an S2 and pounced. I did some maintnance items and started driving it. Its a fun car.

Porsche Genesis:I never really wanted a Porsche I liked them and dreamed about them as every kid does for the exotic cars. I was always a dodge nut and never seen myself driving anything but a dodge ram. But as the gas price sky rocketed I started looking for a sports car. I looked at the dodge stealth mostly and couldn’t find a nice one that I could really call "my car." So one day almost given up hope I start messing around on auto trader looking up car I never knew much about. Puma, Alfa Romaro, ACDC and then I looked at Porsche and a silver 944 in my price range popped up I quickly clicked on it and was in love with it I book marked it phoned the guy and it was still for sale. I asked my dad if we could go look at it and a 1998 dodge ram. He said sure this weekend we will go to Calgary and take a look. I went on the internet and looked at the car every day for hours, looked up information about it and found bill's 944 site which told me almost every thing I needed to know. I was amazed by every thing I read about "One of the best handling cars created" "best sports car of the 1980's" and learnt about the 356 911 912 914 924 928 and so on. But then the day came and I went on the internet to get the guys phone number to find out where he lived but the ad was expired told my dad the bad news and started phoning gas stations if they has the old issue of auto trader, none did ( I phoned at least 20). My dad told me to look in the local newspaper for a dodge ram or dodge stealth or a diff sports car. I looked in the paper every time we got a new one (something like 5 a week) and never in my life seen a Porsche or even a corvette in the paper, I started looking and under classic cars there was an ad for a 1986 PORSCHE 944 144,000 miles Red on Black $6800 (same price and mileage as the other one) I jumped up showed my dad and we headed to red deer. We showed up at the apartment they told us they would park it on the street but we never seen it so we when up to the building and I car cover caught my eye I jumped out of my dads pickup and ran over and lifted up the cover at the front wheel well and a silver 15" phone dial caught my eye I put down the cover and ran to my parents telling them that was it. The owner came out of the building and pulled back the cover showing off its bright red paint it was in very good condition I talked them down to $6000 (with my dads help of course) and gave them a Deposit. A week later they delivered the car and I had a PORSCHE!! And I couldent be happier!
Here’s couples pic of her.
EDIT: Changed to new pics.

I couldn't remember if I'd posted to this topic, so here goes:
Name: Brian Smith

Age: 52 (but look lot's younger!!!!! )

Occupation: Casino Surveillance

Non-Porsche Related Hobbies:Net surfing, website design, booze, any football or sport

Porsche Genesis: No bloody idea. I was looking for a new car and had just about decided on a new Proton Gen2 when I found Bruce on e-bay. You have to remember that p-cars cost a hell of a lot more over here, so, owning a newer car is not an option unless you have lots of cash. By the way. I dont regret for a minute that I now drive a 21y.o. car.

Rennlist: Think I found it while googling and researching 944's prior to purchase. Haven't looked back since. Looking forward to meeting as many watercooler maniacs as I can in September.

Ok, I'll play too.

Matt Jessup, 25, Aerospace Engineering student.
I love anything sports, sucking at golf, spending time with the wife and 15mo. old son, and of course, Porsches.

I have always loved Porsches, I remember as a little boy I had a picture of a red slant nose turbo on my wall, and later a 993TT. I never thought I could afford one, until I met a friend at K-State that was really knowledgable about Porsches, it re-fired my interest and got me started looking, and he's the one that told me about Rennlist. First P-car was a '70 911T, it was a blast, but needed more love than I had time to give. Sold the 911 for an A4 because I thought I needed a family car to go with our new baby, it was out of a feeling of obligation because I had been planning on a 944. After nearly a year with the A4, i.e. a year looking at Porsches, a friend in the KCWS put his '87 951 up for sale, and I couldn't resist. Though I want another 911 someday, the 951 is way better as a daily driver (you heard me right!), overall I love the car. I've been posting here on and off for years, but I finally decided to stop being cheap and get a membership, and thanks to the classifieds, it's paid for itself. Plus, this site has gotten me out of more mechanical problems than I can count.

Name: Colin Walker
Age: 29
Occupation: Family Therapist. I work with juvenile offenders and their families to try and rectify problems at home.
Hobbies: I just love cars and bikes in general. I fool around on my playstation, have 2 dogs I am devoted to and like some computer stuff. When it really comes down to it though, I am IMPASSIONED about cars. I have always been nuts about cars and always will. Since I was about 8, I have read every magazine, book, article I could, gone to every car show my dad would take me to (which he always showed his cars in of course), gone to every race I could attend and spent every dime on cars. I am the guy who drives through car lots at night to see what is new and dream. I read the owners manual from cover to cover for every car I have owned. I LOVE cars.
Porsche Genesis: I grew up in a '63 356B that my father still owns. My earliest memories in Austin texas are of that car and his '60 Jeep ******, which he also still owns. My first "toy" was a Carter brothers 11hp go-cart with a roll cage when I was 8. Six months later, my father bought me a Yamaha DT-80 and I was hooked on bikes. I spent the next few years on 4-wheelers and the odd YZ, so when I turned 16, it was on! I went through an American car phase from 16-22, then the japanese thing (still love them) and in February of 2004, I bought a decent '83 944 and the love started all over. Since then I have helped my father attempt to restore the B, had to sell my 944 to fund a move to Virginia and bought a daily driver 3-series. I was going to buy Nabeel's excellent '44 with some cash I had, but my father fell ill and I have spent the money over the past 6 months going back and forth to Atlanta to help him and my mother as he fights a losing battle. Porsche means so much to me. The B will hopefully be mine one day, a testament to my relationship with my car-nut father and all he has done for me over almost 30 years of car craze. Sorry to get mushy and long winded but I am emotional about cars and my father.

John Deitz

Age 47, married 22 yrs, 1 daughter in college.

Mechanical Engineer, machine designer, small (15 person) family business making pharmacuetical machinery. Grew up working in the shop, went off the college, then back to the shop. These days I sit at my desk and design the machines, but if called upon I can make the parts, bend the sheet metal, weld the brackets, assemble the machine, wire the electronics. I still program the controls, troubleshoot, test and service everything. I even sometimes deal with people.

Hobbies: Rennlist, the Porsche, computer stuff, rennlist, sailboat racing (a big thing in my little family), rennlist. (6/1/05 edit: how did I forget tennis? I only play 4 hrs a week!)

Porsche history: I work with a Corvair nut who runs a DE every year for his club. After several years the curiuosity got to me to go see what it's all about. Long story short: In 2000, bought a beater 85.5 NA, rebuilt a lot, tracked it, had fun, wanted more power and less beatness. In 2002 bought a cosmetically perfect 86 951 and did a maintenance rebuild on the whole engine (it's nice to have a shop) except the head. Last year the timing belt slipped so then I did the head (glad I didn't do it in '02)

Rennlist: I sold a sway bar on Ebay to one J. Keith Walters in '01 and he mentioned maybe I should give rennlist a look. Never looked back! Thank you John D. (the real one, not me).

Hobbies: Snowboarding - I pretty much a newbie but had a fantastic time this winter out on the French Alps (Flaine). I enjoy collecting and watching movies, sci-fi tv series. Cars ! Multiplayer computer gaming, Halflife, DOD, Team Fortress.
Porsche Genesis: Well one day decided I fancied a change of car, and since everyone seemed to have BMW's and such thought I'd look at Porsche 911's well after looking for awhile and almost purchasing a 1974 911S Targa I ended up with a black 944 Lux. My most recent Porsche is a White 944S (171k miles).

Occupation: C.O.O. for Pipeline Data, Inc. Ticker Symbol PPDA

Hobbies: Snow skiing, boating, golf, and anything Porsche, and my Wife (most beautiful woman in the world!)

Porsche History: Purchased a 74 911S in 1996 because it was only $6k and looked GREAT! $30k later it is resotred and running like new. Present value???? Maybe 14k! I still have the car and will never sell it. I went on to buy a 87 944 n/a in 1998 as my daily driver and loved it. Only downfall was the power. Sold that car in 99, and started looking for an S2. Finally found what I was looking for last Nov, Guards Red, Black leather interior, and only 50k miles. Just on a side note, the other garage queen is a 02 SS Z28 convertable, 375 RWHP!

Rennlist: Found it through a search on google.

Hey CC guy, I just put in my application to pipeline last week. Do you think you could help push it along for me? I would like to have it approved, so I can start processing before this weekend.

Brian Bennett, age 46, married 23 years, 2 cats (Porsche & Shelby ;-)

Occupation: Dental Laboratory owner (design & fabricate orthodontic appliances)

Hobbies: Music, HI-FI, playing with cars.

Sporty car synopsis: We bought a '68 Beetle back in 1984, and have crewed for a friend that races a Formula Vee for many years. My wife and I started autocrossing (turbocharged Dodge Omnis ;-) in the mid-80's before being bitten by the racing bug. We both road raced for a few years, but the only Porsche we've raced is Vaughan Scott's 924. Currently, we get our track jollies by Flagging at road races....it's a LOT of fun so y'all should try it!
We bought our 944 about 15 years ago, and shopped for the car we would have ordered if we could have bought it new (LSD, swaybars, sport seats) and it's been a GREAT car.....part of the family, really. Some days I still think I want a 930, but I'm pretty happy with the mix we've got and frankly the garage is full

1968 VW Beetle (needs restoration)
1985.5 944 (civilized street toy)
1986 Shelby GLH-S (evil street toy)
1992 Shelby Can-Am road racer (SCCA CSR)
1997 AWD Town & Country (commuter/tow beast)
2000 Honda S2000 (first 'vert....what a car!)
2001 PT Cruiser (5-speed, wife's commuter)
