True, and in your quest for originality (applauded), no reason to change. Others have modified panels to remove the round lights, which makes for a cleaner, although non-original, look.
I'm also not a huge fan of the circular side marker lights but they are original and I appreciate originality. They do add a very unique look to the car and I think they have aged well. So in a sense, I appreciate the look to some degree. Perhaps a reason why Porsche went with the smaller rectangular side markers on the 944 was to further differentiate the 944 from the 924.
Fuel tank is back and installed. What a pita! These tanks fit so damn tight !! I also neglected to preinstall the tank strap on the passenger side. Hopefully I can manipulate it in there with the tank in place.
Oil and filter changed. I have some German vac hose arriving Monday and it should move pretty quickly now.
My 928 project has been going on simultaneously and is also reaching start up. Should be an interesting month.

Thank you! I am as well and decided to do something on the fun side tonight. Made some vacuum lines. I know there are better modem solutions but I am a sucker for originality. Used cloth covered German Cohline with stainless oetiker clamps for a very original look
Finally took out the old battery. Found a nice clean rust free tray underneath. Battery is dated 1997.
My 87 924S also had sat for over a decade and required the metal gas tank to be removed and pro-cleaned. Getting it back in was a real pig of a job, did not feel natural.
Those are beautiful vacuum lines! Were you able to order the lines and clamps together? Did you buy the crimping tool specifically for this job?
Thanks. I have the pincer for the clamps. Used the bigger version for cv boots. Had to order these super small clamps from Amazon. My old hoses were excellent and untouched original but the time to replace them was now while everything was apart.

Thank you. Well put, it certainly does not feel natural. Seems forced at every step on the way. Thankfully I didn't have the take out the tranny to do it.
Just curious where you got the crimpers from for those clamps. It would be useful to get a set. Worst case i can check with my snap-on rep and see if they carry them. I'd like to be able to make my own hoses as you have done and keep the car looking original.
Oetiker clamp pliers are generally pretty readily/widely available - have a pair myself. Though I am curious about a smaller plier size for smaller clamps, not that I feel like i need one at the moment...
Any racing store will have them (Pegasus, for example). They're the only type of hose clamp I'd ever put on a race car. (Standard jubilee clamps have no give.)
