1980 924 Turbo Project
Well, I am starting another project. Last year it was a 928, year prior was a 80 924. This year going to bring this one back to life. Has not run since 1998. Original paint, should be fun

Where do you keep finding these projects that are in such apparently good shape?

Love the color. The two-tone cars were my favorite.
Assuming (hopefully) it isn't internal, my money for the sitting is on fuel/CIS. Fortunately it sounds like you are familiar with this from your previous adventures! A gentleman on Youtube did a full recommission on one fairly recently. It's worth a watch. I'm looking forward to your updates! |
Looks like another fun project. Can’t wait for updates and pics. Good luck!

Great colour(s)!

Mice loved this engine bay https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ed1f62d70c.jpg |
Not the best picture but words can't describe the smell and appearance of the liquid that came out of the gas tank. This is what gas turns to after 24 years of sitting. Needless to say and as expected, everything fuel related will need to be rebuilt and replaced.

A quick wash and some new tires make a big difference! Engine turns over by hand after a soak in some MMO. Next step is to pull the fuel tank. |
Add me to the list, I absolutely love that color!

Managed to take advantage of the great weather and pulled the fuel tank. Since this 80 Turbo has the snailshell transmission, it was not necessary to pull the transmission. The in-tank pump was destroyed on removal. It was filled with black good. And check out this sender https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3b98cd44ec.jpg |
Ew, nasty! Good thing you pulled it out, will definitely need serious attention...
|
Got the entire fuel system out of the car including the accumulator, FD and WUR. Everything I pulled was original and untouched. The WUR has the typical crud buildup and the FD piston is stuck firm Going to fun stuff ahead.
Now if I can just get the smell of bad gas out of my nostrils :) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...cb67890d04.jpg |
Been steadily making progress. The tank is out being flushed and sealed professionally. I took some time to vacuum out the many former mouse nests that were all over the engine bay. This is nasty.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...dc3091e775.jpg They packed insulation under the intake. And I mean packed! Also got the FD off but after soaking for a week, the piston is quite stuck. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...777a3a837a.jpg Going to have to break it open for a rebuild. A month into this, no surprises so far, everything looks as I expected. Next up is a good steaming and a timing belt |

A quick clean up on the engine bay! |
