You are either going to need the special handshake and $100 bills, or hope and pray that all the parts are there. sorry about the pessimism.

If your car isn't exempt by its importation docs :-) (wishful thinking) ,you possibly will be able to retrofit
a somewhat later catalyst system like off of a '77 to '83 ,heat exchangers, crossover, cat and muffler
could possibly lean out exhaust sufficient to pass ,otherwise hope like hell 1976 has been exempted
altogether , it's possible.. Bert

oh and that above pic is of a full race 1976 934 turbo with air to water intercoolers that most certainly wont
pass!

Come clean... Did you get the green one in France, The red one in Germany, or the orange one in Germany?

You are correct, how did you know? Apparently there are 20 other people in the US that have one, but I haven't found someone else in Ca. that might help out.

If you got the green one you should be good. I can't imagine an engine that looks complete and well cared for has issues.

If I can't get it smogged, maybe a major hurdle

Looking at the picture does it look like there's a piece missing, like the large plastic piece just above the coil. I am thinking plumbing for the aircleaner. I am just getting familar with the Porsche engines so it just seems from looking at others there was a large black plastic piece that attached to that elbow above the coil. Educate me, please

The California CARB will require you to take the car to a registered importer. They will not allow you to do the work yourself or have a local garage do the work. There is a two part requirement by California. The first being it will have to upgraded to pass DOT regulations which is strengthening and lighting buckets to meet US requirements. The second is passing current smog requirements which will be quite expensive. I believe there are two registered importers in SoCal and the CARB (California Air Resources Board) will provide their contact information. I went through this ten years ago and it was not cheap then so I expect it will be worse now so be prepared. Curt

I know it is DOT exempt and EPA, but not smog. Just talked to DMV yesterday.
