Final job of the day after the primer baked dry was rubbing Scotchbrite over the entire underside before degreasing & seal sealing in preparation for the undercoating spray sealer tomorrow.

Lovely work, it's almost a shame to paint it , it looks so good in the light grey primer.

To replicate the factory underseal finish on the floorpan and arch areas of the 911 we use a water-based spray sealer applied to all areas. Because we are still preparing the doors and front wings, we're having to do the covering in two applications; the main floor pan and rear areas as shown here were done first; the front wheel arch areas and sills will have be done later after the front wings have been fittted and aligned.

Owen and Rob have abraded the dry stone chip with scotchbrite to fully key the surface and are masking off the outer areas ready for primer.

Some detail shots of the stonechip and floor, items to note are the rear anti-roll bar bracket reinforcements, the fuel pump bracket on the left hand rear torsion bar mount, the oil tank strap in the right hand rear arch, the integral breather pipe elbows in the rear inner quarters, the front tow eye and spray sealer covering the foam infills inside the c-pillar openings.

Next door in the main workshop Mark is making good progress with the engine build. The crankcases have been time-serted for new headstuds and checked for true; a new std/std size crank was found and that has been cleaned and crack tested; the conrods have been size checked and are being rebushed; the oil pump and timing gear have been replaced; cylinder heads fully rebuilt with new intake valves & guides with recut seats.

Before anyone asks, the red goop on the crank main bearings is engine assembly lube.

So happy that you went with a stock body on this. You fought the urge to go wide. I believe that people are gonna start to appreciate the stock lines on these cars more and more. Fantastic.

The individual panels have now been etched and primed, so once Rob is back after moving house he will be fitting and aligning those front wings to the doors.

Wings and doors on and aligned, now just waiting on a new bonnet from Porsche. Or, if you prefer: fenders and doors on and aligned, now just waiting on a new hood. See, learning a new language is nowhere near as hard as people say.

I cannot believe I'm just discovering this thread!

I'm now convinced that there isn't anything you can't do with a 911. Now, please send me an Aqua Blue 9M 993 4.0 RSR...

Sure thing Mike, just find yourself a 993 Coupe, stick it in a container and send it right on over. Four weeks from now you could be reading a thread about your own car being built.

In fact, if you look carefully behind Dave's 911S there is a LHD 9m93 widebody Clubsport shell just waiting on finishing. Think this one is going to be a Continental Orange 9m93GT2.

Funny, thing is, I do know of a good 993 shell...

At the very least, next time I'm in England, I may have to pay you a visit.

Great, that's good enough or me, I'm always willing to make a coffee and show visitors what we are up to around the shop.

Now our 9m93 Speedster is off the spit we can finally re-load the 911S to spray sealer under the front wings now they have been aligned. Here the guys are hand sealing the joint between the wing & inner wing with PU sealant.

Why does that not surprise me JP?

Dave has more or less decided that he does not want the car Sepia now, so the current plan is Slate Grey. Well, if it's good enough for Steve McQueen it's good enough for a slightly mad Irishman, eh Dave?

New hood arrived today. Fits quite well, which is a huge relief.
