9m 1972 911S repair & restoration - back to original or not?

I note the pump is 014 ( 1972/3 2.4 E) and not the expected 021 ( 1972/3 2.4S) item. Wonder why, did someone change the pump before it came to UK in 1982? It would seem strange to replace an MFI pump that was only 10yrs old max.
Will it make a difference to the way the car runs ?

At this point Dave we have little choice but to fit the pump we have, so that's the plan: at the very least we can use the pump to break in the engine on the dyno. It's not all bad as we can check the mixture whilst running will tell us how close the fuelling is to the S engine and over what RPM range we can run it safely.
With this decision made we can now fit the engine and gearbox into the car, so last week Mark fitted the clutch, flywheel and gearbox. Robin hooked up the heater tubes to the MFI valve and hey presto! we're almost ready to fit it - save for the new starter motor which will arrive this week.

There is one other item that we are trying to address, namely the quality of the MFI fuel injectors. One of my long time friends and customers Dave Elliot lent us an old school diesel injector tester to evaluate the injector release pressure and spray pattern but unfortunately the pump unit has been sat around for too long and is not playing ball .....

We put it in - and this is what happened: it lives!
Robin was back from vacation on Monday and immediately started nibbling down the to-do list of outstanding items to get the engine installed and running. The instruments first needed some figuring out until we managed to put together a working set. The engine was in on Monday and oil tight soon enough. New twin Bosch batteries had the new starter cranking up the oil pressure and soon it was ready to start. But it didn't.
First fix was to trace a broken wire connection in the wiring loom. Then after discovering a dead 3 pin spark box he borrowed one from another car and finally Robin managed to get a spark.
A new set of fuel injectors solved the problem with the rusted up originals, then the fuel system had another fit with a leak on the fuel filter temporarily stopping play.
Finally, at 4:00 today we had fuel and spark together. It started second pull....
.... before a terminal leak on the fuel pump ended play for the day. It's not good when fuel is spraying out of the electrical connection socket, is it?
So now we need a 3 pin spark box and a new fuel pump, but at least we know the engine runs!
Robin then celebrated by starting the assembly of the heater box, only to discover that we also need a set of long cables for the heater slide controls.

Sorry for the slow updates guys, my fault for being so busy with managing the business recently.
The good news is that Robin has been making steady progress over few weeks since my last post so in no particular order:
Replacement left trailing arm installed, no longer bent
Rear wheel hub issues resolved, '72 hub is different to SC one supplied, new one coming from the 'States
Fully restored spark box fitted and working
Door frames trial fitted to work out what parts are missing from the door assembly (like a pair of clear drop glasses....?!?)
Door locks and ignition barrel rebuilt by re-arranging the tumblers to suit the only pair of matching keys provided
New electric fuel pump fitted, minus the non-essential return line, glad to say the engine now runs without leaking fuel all over the floor.
Dash top & heated windscreen fitted with wiring from relay, all hidden behind heater box
Spill boxes and heater pipework connected at rear with new control cable to handbrake lever
