I will miss following the resurrection of what most would have scrapped. Wonderful work. I know the owner will be hesitant to to drive her now. I would. Better than new. Jack
Thank you boys, we all really appreciate your comments.
What I can tell you is that the car is not intended to be a garage queen, I am absolutely sure that Dave intends to drive her as much as possible over the next 10 years to get the maximum value from the money he has spent. I think we should all expect to see irregular updates on the thread from time to time as the car voyages out on its tours around Ireland and Europe. To boldly go where few 2.4S have gone before? Probably not, after all it's already done that and by the skin of it's teeth managed to survive to tell the tale!
Went on a Porsche Club Ireland Run today. We did 250 kms ( 160 miles). It was my first time to drive the car since the restro. Drives great, the steering is responsive, the brakes when bedded in worked well. The Engine pops, bangs and cuts out on over run and wont really idle. Something to examine later. I ve only the drivers seat fitted as I badly need rails and runners for the passenger seat, please anyone who has some for sale email me or Colin. Gearbox good, a little hesitant going into 1st 5th and reverse but changes mostly good.
Lots of power from the engine and not as peaky as I remembered it, it just pulls from 2700 all the way. Running it in so not using high revs, yet !
I raced it with a Momo Wheel but as you know we the original wheel which was recovered by Jon Miller in KIlaloe in Ireland. https://www.google.ie/maps/dir/Cork/...51.8968917!3e0

At the top of the Vee looking over the Golden Vale County Cork. The white line in the middle of the road makes a good line through the bend !
20 yrs ago I used use these roads as a private rally stage, a perk of the job.
Go n'éirí on bóthar leat, may the road rise to meet you, may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead. The long and straight road awaits ZT

Glad you're back safely Dave. Seeing the 2.4S on the road for the first time makes all the effort worthwhile, it's lovely. Sorry about the engine, it ran properly for the first time on the Saturday, you collected the car on the Monday morning - what can I say? Just not enough time to give the car a proper shakedown and set the engine up properly.
I do hope the missing tyre arrived and that you now have 4 matching tyres fitted?
Major dad AND NineMeister...great post!
As the owner of a 1972S that is about 2 years behind you on the restoration I want to thank you for the great thread...I won't ruin your post by putting up pictures of my project...not worthy!

Thank you
No problem at all, put up a post and then open and link to your own thread. Great Porsche's them 72 2.4S. Oil tank really balances the car being mid mounted.

As requested...There is 1 1/2 year of work left. I am aiming for spring/early summer 2016. Too many projects, too many cars, and my guy is a good man and works one car at a time. (again nice job on yours and thank you for posting).
Beautifully done gentlemen. I truly think that is a very classy color and shows the car to great advantage.
The attn. to detail and quality build was a real treat to watch.
Enjoy it.
Eight months after receiving the car back from 9M, and after returning it for fettling last month, I will be updating this thread later today. Also begining a new thread about the 2600 kms drive I did last week called the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland where I live.
The car came back to Ireland ( involves a sea crossing of 4 hrs and a 500 mile road journey ) in Sept 2014. I drove it for about 600 miles and it was aparent some tasks remained so it was returned to 9 M a month ago. The engine was popping on over run and would not idle ( remember the MFI pump was not refurbed and it s 014 , its the one that was on the engine when I bought it in 1988 but it s incorrect ). Some intstruments needed repair/rewiring and the seats need fitting. The car will not idle correctly. The front bonnet will not stay closed ( a task in hand by 9 M)
Over the winter I slowly, painfully, expensively got acquired the rails for the Recaro Sports Seats. The rails came from Freisenger in Karlshrue in Germany. So by march 2015 I could at least sit and drive in one seat. I bought a pair of Repa 1972 Belts from a guy on here and DDK called Stretch in the UK, they are beautiful. I made up a paper template to position the PORSCHE letters on the engine lid.
The alloy engine lid is proving a PITA ! Push even gently in the wrong place and you have a dent, I've had Dent Doctor call once so far, Colin had him the day I collected the car and now I need him again.
I ve sent the wheel caps to a friend Michael Burke here who does vapour blasting. I'm thinking I might get him to do the fan , as the red is a bit glaring.
The exhaust ( 70 mm twin SS outlets) is loud and can drone , I wear plugs.
The steering wheel and the Verdenstein 185 70 15 tyres work well, I'm getting used to how the car can be unsettled by side winds and fast motorway driving.
