Brought my front and rear bumper seals and hood seal to Andy’s yesterday to use for final fitment checks and adjustments. Car is now very close to being done - maybe as early as Monday. Stopped by today and they were welding up the mirror holes on the passenger door and starting the small rust repair on the passenger door that was in the same spot as the driver door. My car had some aftermarket mirrors on it when I bought it and wasn’t delivered from the factory with a passenger door mirror (nor do I want one on my hot rod!). The final issue that needs to be resolved is the rear driver side bumper. It was modified quite a bit to fit with good gaps and alignment but has too large a gap between it and the bumper guard. They are having to weld material to the end to lengthen it a tad to close the gap. Andy said this is very common

Here is a photo of the before and after of the mirror holes drilled for aftermarket mirror

Well, car hasn’t made it to paint shop yet but still hoping it does before the end of the week. I hope all that is left is dialing in the driver door gap.

Here are the latest photos of the work:

Driver rear bumper needed a couple modifications to fit as it should. Cut was made in the bend area to increase angle and material was welded to the end to add length for a proper gap against the bumper guard.

The rust spot in the lower front area of the passenger door (exactly the same spot that was repaired on the driver’s side) was completed.

The rusted dash and window channel area is complete.

Be glad it isn't a 356, and that you aren't a typical 356 owner in age...

I've seen a couple of guys die while their 356 was being restored

Funny as the shop I have been using does more 356's than anything else. And it is insane to see the amount of work to restore those cars - we think early 911's rust - nothing compared to the 356. My guy was also very honest with me that the money for him is in the 356's which is part of the reason my car was never a priority there. As he put it - an early restored 911 S has a value up to around $200k, whereas the early rare 356's are worth multiples of that. I saw 2 cars purchased and brought to his shop that were complete rusted carcasses that the owners said they got a great deal at $150k and $175k and were going to be spending well into the 6 figures just for the sheetmetal work! My measly T was not a money maker for him that's for sure.

I will be taking my time with my engine build - heck, I have time before the car will be ready for the engine anyway lol. However, I am getting prepared to start building my 2.5 MFI, starting with the crankshaft assembly. Machine work done by Ollie’s, using ARP fasteners and Clevite with Calico coating rod bearings from Automobile Associates. I will be doing this with my son and recording our progress as well. Stay tuned and wish us luck!

Henry at supertec sells an adhesive kit direct and on pelican. You’ll want to grab that....

i know my shop uses torco assembly lube not sure matters you just want it to stay in place.

Thanks. I can take a look at those for when I get to the case sealing. For this part of the process I have Loctite 271 and Lucas semisynthetic assembly lube, in addition to the ARP bolt torque lube. These were recommended as well

Good Luck!

Do a dry assembly first and account for all the fasteners on the outer case...

Surprise - car isn’t to paint yet. Both front fenders needed repairs once the paint was stripped and they are still dialing in the driver side door gap.

Why not share more photos of rust repair!

Driver side fender rust repair - can’t see the crack that needed to be welded up.

Passenger side Front fender bottom of the dogleg is shot and needs to be patched.

Work continuing on driver door gap. Adding material to tighten the gap.

When the aftermarket air conditioning was installed in the smugglers box the drainage tube was cut out. This has been replaced.

Starting to assemble the crankshaft assembly for my 2.5MFI build. Love these Mahle Clevite Calico bearings - perdy lookin’!

I will be sharing the motor build, as well as the complete reassembly of the car on YouTube for those that are interested in subscribing to my channel. I have never built a motor and never done Youtube videos so this can be a disaster but maybe some can benefit from what will be shared. I posted a simple intro video today but am close to posting a video showing the crankshaft assembly part of the build. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_p...vTOlHExGIt7PRA

Here are shots of these beautiful black rod bearings and the early stages of the crankshaft reassembly:

if you've never built one...

don't forget to dry assemble!!

The Bruce & Jerry show (Anderson & Woods) is over, but his widow iis or was selling copies of notes from the classes they used to give.

Nut 22 is often a puzzle - it is the one on the flywheel side down at the very bottom of the case.

Do you have an experienced buddy to help?
