I didn't want to say anything to not jinx it, despite all the warnings lol. My build was still showing the PDLS+ and Bose in the premium package all the way up until this morning. Finally reached out to my SA, my build had locked but he slipped in a few changes. I dropped navigation and added Burmester, net cost change was only $1k or so. I think it's a fair trade because I was only getting nav for the rare instance my wife would drive it as she uses Android. I'll figure something out.

Guess I'm one of those Burmester guys now...

Sucks about the lights, but end of the day it won't affect my experience with it. A huge overreaction from anyone who drops their allocations because of this.

I spec'd Bose as dealer warned me that the base sound system was bad. I don't use the sound system much, but the Bose is seriously lacking. I'm astounded Porsche even consider the Bose an upgrade. It's lame in comparison to what other cars offer as standard, such as my wife's M340 and Volvo SUV.

I don't see it that way - not everyone can convince themselves to compromise at this price point. You don't have any dealbreaker specs?

Sure, I do. The 4.0 liter engine.

I know what you're saying, it's annoying that the goalposts keep moving but the lights to me definitely doesn't qualify as a dealbreaker. Pretty ludicrous if I'm being honest... I mean, we all somehow survived driving at night with halogens didn't we? I'm trivializing, yes, but my point should be clear. We're talking "Porsche people" here... it's just ironic to me that on a board that praises the "analog" experience so much, people are throwing absolute fits over how bright the lights are/how far the running lights are spaced apart. Sure I preferred the PDLS+ too but... come on!

I would almost understand the lack of Bose, because a stereo is an integral part of the driving experience... but SO MANY people talk **** about how terrible it is. For me it was adequate, the base system is not... but you can pretty easily upgrade the stereo, even if you didn't opt for the Burmester. Another inconvenience, but it's not doing much to dull my enthusiasm over getting the car.

Maybe that's just me... but it's just silly to me to see some folks on here who were so excited to just get their allocation that are now seeing red over headlights.

I think delays and extended wait time become too much for some buyers and they become despondent with the entire process. The wait, coupled with removal of spec'd options is perhaps the last straw.

I waited 12 months for allocation, then 5 months for production and delivery. I must admit, that along the way I did consider throwing the towel in and cancelling.

That said, I wouldnt cancel a 718 order for PDLS+ or Bose. These 718's are not about lux or tech. Everyone has different priorities. I'm sure that you could retro-fit PDSL+. As for Bose, I'd just get aftermarket sound system installed if that important.

Called my SA today. As of right now, they have not "gotten an email about my order" having to change, due to PDLS+/Bose availability. So, here is my Porsche confirmed build sheet as of today (August 9th 2022). Perhaps they have enough PDLS+/Bose parts to service builds through the end of October, but for builds happening in November and beyond, they won't have any.

The following timelines are as per TYD:
09/26/2022 - Change Freeze Point
...
10/14/2022 - Start Production
10/28/2022 - Production Completed - CP8.0
...
12/09/2022 - Arrival Porsche Dealer

My dates are identical to yours and PDLS+ was removed from my build last week.

Perhaps it's only a matter of time until I get the dreaded update... 😬 Time will tell! 🤞

Anyone dropping their order over the headlights is just freeing up space for someone who actually appreciates the car for what it is. We should be thanking the ones who are dropping their orders for letting them go to the real enthusiasts.

I'm still waiting for an allocation, and so not impacted (yet), but putting myself in others' shoes, I think the really frustrating thing here would probably be having your locked allocation altered, and then not being given the opportunity to make compensating changes to the spec. For a lot of us these specs are carefully worked out with a lot of give and take, a lot of trade-offs, and a lot of interdependent options. So, for example, I could imagine if I went all in on a "just the way I want it spec", and then too many things got yanked out from under me, I might want to keep the order, but pare it back to a "just the basics" spec. If I weren't able to do so, I could understand the urge to re-evaluate whether the amount of $ I'm on the hook for in the whole endeavor is still justifiable.

^ Agree with that. Dropping options is one thing, but customers should be given an opportunity to adjust.

The electric power steering adjustment issue kinda pissed me, too. Porsche "Here is $500. Take it or leave it". Pretty lousy customer service.

So “real enthusiasts” like 1990’s headlight technology? I’m learning more and more in this thread!

They work. The only people who complain are more worried about how the car looks than whether they work, because they work just fine.

I disagree with this statement. PDLS+ LED headlamps way out perform BiXenons functionally. If you disagree, you don't drive at night on B roads. I could care less about visual design it's about the performance of visually seeing ahead.
