As always on the internet no one seems to be able to have a measured viewpoint. It’s either BaT BAD or BaT GOOD. Everyone understands that the seller agreed to the reserve and the terms but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t suck if you were the seller!

Why would it suck to be a seller that sold a car at a price which he considers acceptable?

I am taking the bold move of positing that the seller was unhappy with the $103K sale price on the Spyder

He received the reserve price to which he agreed and which was more than 103. If he’s unhappy, he should be more careful going forward not to enter into voluntary contracts that he’s unwilling to execute.

This. The logic for the "opposing viewpoint" totally eludes me.

BaT closes a sale and is happy with a <$5k/5% vs zero fee. Everybody wins. Which part is "unethical and overreaching"?

It is not transparent, did you miss that part? It is also somewhat of a moving target and 100% up to BAT if it makes sense for them. The terms are not crystal clear.

It's ok this is the internet, everyone is either an idiot or a genius no in-between. Black and white world, must be a nice place to visit.

Did you also not read the seller's comments himself on the listing itself where he said RNM met my car is not sold?? Miss that part too? The seller is clearly confused on what the hell just happened. In addition, following his comment post auction close, many people are posting information that isn't entirely accurate.

He definitely was because he was confused on the terms and how it all works. I bet if you talked to him in real life he would tell you this.

I am sure everyone posting here with the opposite opinion never once entered into a fuzzy contract, or over looked something that wasn't overly obvious or worked with a company purposely engaging in vague terms or processes.

Now there is a well specced manual spyder with 9K miles on it sold for $103K as a data point. It makes no sense. Or at least BAT should very clear on what they covered to meet the reserve to not skew the market values because $103K isn't not real and we all know it.

We know the buyer paid 108k. That the seller got a discount on the cost of selling it is largely immaterial. You wouldn't have any more info if it were RNM.

I don’t think the seller is tickled pink. BaT does negotiate with you over the reserve… obviously it’s not going to be what you think it’s worth.
Then it’s a crapshoot.
The seller probably assumed it would ramp up from that number, based on other sales for Spyders.
For whatever reasons, the buyers weren’t interested in his car as compared to others.
I wouldn’t judge the value of Spyders or the merits of BaT based on one sale.

I had wonderful results for selling my collector car on BaT,
I wanted a higher reserve price ($45k) and they wouldn’t budge above theirs ($42k).
I rolled the dice and I ended up getting $15k more ($60k) than what I expected and would have been thrilled to get if I sold it for privately .
I was beyond ecstatic and all for $99.00
I guess it all depends on what attracts the buyer (I know with mine, it was the color).
As with everything in life, YMMV.

My pastel orange GT4 is now live on BaT, no reserve. Currently at a little above $100k: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...-cayman-gt4-4/

Good luck! Super curious to see if it will sell close to the $200k that was requested a few months ago.
