The Softronic Tune Discussion and First Impressions
#166
Revisiting this thread as I'm unable to find the answer to my question via search, etc. I've had my Softronic tune for a few months now....love it! The ability to push the PSE button and have the valves open 100% of the time is worth the price alone, in my opinion. However, I am trying to figure out how the valves behave without the PSE button pressed. I believe stock programming with PSE off is that the valves are open on startup, then close around 1800 rpm and reopen around 4000 rpm. Question 1: Is that correct? and Question 2: Is that still the case post-tune?
I ask as I have been playing with it while driving, and now that I am accustomed to having them open 100% of the time with PSE button engaged, I cannot hear them open or close across the rpm range when PSE is off. That makes me wonder if the tune defaults them to closed 100% of the time if PSE in not engaged.

The default is is quiet when not pressed and full open or loud with it pressed . It acts as a switch on or off.
Best,
Scott

I can attest to the speed at which Scott send the file back. Everything so far has gone great. I am prepared to flash back to the car, but likely won’t be able to drive it for the 30 minutes or so that it takes for everything to regulate (long story, but a combination of weather and a sleeping baby will likely prevent me from going out for a drive).
Should I be ok to flash the car even if I can’t get it out on the road for another week or two?

Interesting - so the tune doesn't really "register" in your normal driving?
If that's the case, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised - NA engines aren't nearly as easy to modify as the Turbo cars...those initial BMS tunes on the N54 were insane.
I was interested in the 8200 RPM limit, especially if the sound is impacted in a positive manner. High revs are no nice on the NA side...

IMO by the time the engine is at 8k rpm another 200 here or there does not register...
YMMV
