A promise of an allocation, or a real one with a commission number etc?

It sounds good at higher revs, but a lot of that is exhaust tuning and other acoustic things, hence the 4RS sounding quite different from the GT3 - what you hear isn't just the engine whirring.
You can very easily keep it in the higher revs on the street. Just don’t shift. I have a manual Spyder with Kline exhaust and “only” 8000rpm. I manage to enjoy the car regardless of the gearing. There is plenty of drama in the 6000 range. Just keep the revs up!

Real one! Locks in December with June 2024 delivery. Will post my build to see what you guys think soon. Submitted, but that builder keeps calling to me…

I don't get much enjoyment wringing the car out in 1st or 2nd gear. Do that in 3rd gear or higher and you're going pretty damn fast!

I score 5 out of 8 on these criteria.
LOL I'm 7/8, the last point is the only uncertainty...

As compared to what? Certainly not the Spyder/GT4?

But yes, other cars that cost similar...the 4.0 engines way down on punch. If your a numbers guy these cars aren't for you.

two quick notes from a 3 time, 26 year boxster guy:
1) drive a base 986 for 26 years, then tell me that the 4.0 (vanity plate “4 OHHHH”) lacks low end punch
2) i’m glad that i’m winning the pca raffle to make it easier to resolve getting the pdk only, no heated seats only SRS

As compared to other cars with ~500 hp.

Ooooh, I wanna play:

- Wants a road car, not track car: 1
- Wants mid-engine Boxster/Cayman handling: 1
- Likes the way it looks, and the amount of attention the car will get or lack thereof (depending on the build): .5, I think I prefer the lack of vents etc
- Will generally leave the top off, and weather and parking conditions make that possible: 1
- Likes the screaming sound at higher revs, and will drive in conditions that make it possible to spend a lot of time at higher revs without going to jail, crashing, or drawing unwanted attention: 1
- Doesn't mind the engine not being punchy at low and mid revs: 1
- Prefers PDK, or no strong preference between PDK vs manual: 0
- Can get the car at MSRP or small ADM, or doesn't care what it costs: 0, my dealer doesn't charge ADM but then they are very picky who they give their special cars to

So 4.5 but the lack of manual (and the fact I don't have an allocation) kills it for me.

It’s actually 5.5, and if you get an allocation at acceptable price it goes to 6.5, so I think you have a passing score either way.
