The 718 Spyder RS Discussion Thread
#46
I suppose anything is possible. After all, previous gen Spyders were not true GT products but a higher spec Boxster GTS spec. The 982 Spyder is truly a GT product where the chassis is similar to the GT4. Were people debating whether Porsche would do such a thing with the 982? There can always be a first time and just because it hasn't happened before doesn't mean it can't happen now.
Personally, I think pushing the Spyder into RS territory will be a stretch just like how people have "confirmed" that the GT4 RS is going to have 500hp but I suppose anything is possible so only time will "confirm."
From a business standpoint, R&D is always an expensive cost and if Porsche wants to control costs, one of the easiest ways to do this is to spread the cost around. Technically, they could implement some of the RS bits into the Spyder without too much cost. Lighter exhaust, RS vent in front of the front wheel since it's different from regular GT4/Spyder, top fender vent (seen on spy photos), trailing fender vent (seen on spy shots), NACA ducts on frunk, center lock wheels, and new wheel design (assuming forged wheels). Porsche could technically do this and call it an RS even if it doesn't have the larger swan neck wing on the GT4 RS' running around.
The 982 Spyder is softer than the GT4 since it has options for Burmester, steering wheel controls, high performance tires, and heated steering wheel so I suppose giving the Spyder RS some of the GT4 RS bits but not incorporating the wing and rear quarter window intake (obviously no rear quarter window) could be a thing.

Seems odd no mules running around. Unlike the gt4 RS for 2 years...

I got really doubt about this.
So I called manager and setup a meeting with him again few days ago.
He show me internal email.
It looks like a charts of what will become available to take order.
And yes there is
GT4 RS / Spyder RS
taking order week 46 of 2021
Production start Feb 2022
The reason he show me the email was,
I had a conversation with him about this.
At one point I asked “could it be call something else?”
Geeeeezzzzz what’s actually happening.

End of week 46 is when the LA Auto Show starts. Supposedly the new GT4CS will be shown then. Would make sense to show the GT4RS at the same time.
