Default Back in the saddle again

It even came with a lower insurance rate than my 2016 Cayman S. I love the chalk, but it's definitely darker than I expected. However, I have yet to view the car in strong daylight. Currently, it's overcast. I ordered the car middle of April. Six months from conception to delivery.

Sweet! My friend picks up his Chalk this weekend. What interior did you get? Are you a Metro PCA member? Maybe we'll meet up one of these days.

Hi.

I got graphite blue leather. It's very nice. Darker than expected. I guess everything looks lighter online.

I don't get up before noon. So, I've never belonged to any car/Porsche group. Such groups seem to convene in the morning. I would, however, join a 1AM cigar smoking group! Usually, it's just me, the rats, and some assorted homeless.

Yea, early morning is our best chance of doing any sort of decent driving before the traffic kills the fun around here.

I go out midnight to 4AM. At that time, the Saw Mill and Bronx River are mine all mine.

Deerfield Rd in Water Mill is rarely crowded.

I just got informed that my car is going to be delayed 10 days and won’t be at the dealer until 10/29. This is a win for me because I thought the car wasn’t coming in until later in November. Maybe I can get those break in miles before it snows.

Congrats! I see in your profile that you're in Manhattan and you say that you park in the street. We just came back from a week vacation in Manhattan. My wife and I love that place...but street parking looks dangerous. We saw so many cars with "parking bumpers" for their bumpers. I know may people have no idea what I'm talking about I know you do since you live and park in Manhattan. It's the funniest thing.

Sounds like you live an easy life with not waking up before noon and staying up to 4am. Enjoy!

I did get side-swiped, this summer. Probably $4k in damage, but I left it unfixed, and deducted that amount from the price of my car (my 2016 Cayman S) when I sold it.

I've also had rats chew through my wires twice. Each repair was $600. But I've been parking on the street for 6 years. So, that's only $5200 in damage over 6 years, which is far, far less than it costs to park in a garage in lower Manhattan. In my area (TriBeCa), garages tack on $400 a month for German cars. The base rate is about $600 a month. That's $11k a year to use a garage.

Furthermore, garages are closed midnight to 5AM, and I do most of my driving midnight to 4AM. That makes garage use inconvenient.

I move my car at midnight. I have an easy time finding spots then. But if a person can't move their car at midnight, finding a spot can be impossible. It's very hard to find a spot before midnight.

This reply is for halfmonkey. Did it stack that way?

Dang, that is crazy. While my wife and I were there, we saw plenty of large rats on the street so I'm not surprised that they got into your car.

That's crazy about tacking on an "adm" for parking if you have a german car. How do they justify that?

My neighborhood is uber wealthy. The average income here is $400k/yr, and many people earn seven figures. Therefore, most people don't see the cost as high. Also, some people probably take pride in paying more. It's that sort of environment. My understanding is that garages in Brooklyn and Queens do not tack on an amount for "luxury" cars.

My neighbors are wealthy. I've lifted weights next to Steve Nash and stood in line at Whole Foods behind John Legend.

Many women in my area won't date men who earn less than $200k. I've seen it on dating apps. They earn a lot too. Also, so many guys earn double that amount that the pool of men is not small.

Presumably, enclosing a mothball in one's car will deter rats from nesting in the car during the cold months.

Outdoor lots have rats too. So, only indoor garages seem to be a safe haven. If you park in an outdoor garage, try to get your car elevated. As of now, NYC rats can't fly, but that might change. Those f*ckers are fearless and very industrious. They'll probably learn how to stack themselves and climb up that stack like Baron Munchausen (sp?).

Denver Airport has a rabbit problem along the lines of NYC's rat problem. Out there, rabbits are eating cars.

I am officially out of the waiting room. Had a great time at PECLA today, I highly recommend it. Sorry for the bad photos but I was too excited to care! Plus they have someone taking photos of the entire event.
