Oh CRAP! That look amazing. Now I have to do this! I'm very interested in reading about the install. Are there any safety concerns with doing them yourself?
Thanks Adam!
As to safety concerns... I guess that depends on how much you trust your own wrenching. It helped that someone had recently previously posted some Spyder instructions on another forum. Someone else had posted a reference to a Porsche manual for the 981 that had torque values for the two bolts you have to work with (one at each end). It appears the mechanisms are the same as the 982 so I just used those. The torque numbers are a lot lower than I would have expected, 35NM and 50NM, but the effort to remove the bolts felt in line with that. It is mechanically straightforward, properly getting the trim off and back on are the only real secrets.
I'll plan on writing it up tomorrow or Saturday and provide as much detail as I can along with some photos of the steps. Then you can see if it is something you are comfortable with yourself. Both the removal and the install took a little over an hour each, working carefully.
Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty confident in my abilities, I was mostly concerned with the potential safety issue of installing new belts of course. Most things I'll try. I've done more than the average shade tree mechanic. I don't do plumbing because the errors there (leaks inside walls) are very costly. After all, "A man's got to know his limitations." (
I recently installed the Cargraphic valve controller, and yes, taking ALL that interior apart to access the engine on a 2 day old $100k car can be intimidating! But it all went back together with no spare parts left over .
Looking forward to reading your write-up. I'll go read that 981 write-up again. I know it's bookmarked somewhere.
After many months of checking this thread daily, my SB GT4 finally arrived today. Totally in love with it so far and can’t wait to let it stretch its legs out a bit!

I received the seatbelts back from SeatbeltPlanet. They were pretty quick on getting the new color webbing installed and it looks like a very good match (their Laguna Blue). They can do a variety of colors of course and their belts meet DOT certification. Interestingly, their belt material comes from the Berger Group, the German company that makes the seatbelts for Porsche. https://www.bergerseatbelt.com/en
The price with this premium webbing was $360. The removal/installation can be done yourself if you are a confident DIY'er. I'll write something up on it sometime soon.
For now, here's the end results.
Where's our write-up on these? The wife wants to buy them for me for my Bday.
What I'm not clear about is what is needed in order to attach the belts to the mechanism? Is it a bolt in thing, a thread/wind up thing? Inquiring minds want to know because tearing into it doesn't look hard at all. As stated previously, I just don't want to do something that could make the seatbelts fail in an accident.

Please see this thread: Hopefully it will answer all of your questions. The bottom line to your immediate question is you take out the whole reel mechanism and they replace the webbing in that. https://rennlist.com/forums/718-foru...l#post17909202
