I installed the Soul OAPs yesterday. It took me more like 6 hours instead of 2 (1 hour of that was running out to get a replacement for a broken wrench). I decided to do it myself for the fun of it and to partially offset the cost of a Quickjack (rationalization at its best). The double-nut stud-removal method worked fine for one side but was a bust for the other side. I tried to get the stock OAP out from the "easy" side for about an hour with no luck. It's obvious now but I should have realized that I needed to have the other side completely unbolted (even with some studs still in) to get more play in the muffler. In the end I did just that and then unbolted the bottom of the muffler and used a strap to (gently) pull it back to get enough some play with which to work. Then the problem side came out even with some studs still in place.

I've never driven my Spyder with the vacuum lines connected. Even so, the new sound is quite a bit louder than I expected, but very, very good. Initial startup in my echo-prone shop almost startled me. The volume is reasonable enough even for neighborhoods (I live in a rural area) up until about 3,500 rpm and then it starts getting louder fast. Also got downshift pops and burbles back (or maybe now they're just amplified) reminiscent of my 981S w/ PSE. Searched the rev range for drone but I didn't notice any. Very satisfied, but I definitely won't be looking for more volume via additional mods.

Sounds really good.

Is this the resonated or non-resonated race exhaust?

What do you think the sound difference would be with race headers + resonated race exhaust vs street headers + non-resonated race exhaust?

I placed an order the resonated race exhaust today. It says 8-9 weeks expected delivery, is that right?

Yes....just e-mail John yesterday and they have a huge number of orders and that estimate is about right. Mine still has 2-3 weeks to go.

It absolutely is Martin, and please feel free to give me a shout any time and I'm happy to give you an update as we go along.

Yours also went out to Jet Hot Ceramic Coating after it was completed within the expected lead time, so that isn't quite relevant to the normal lead time my friend. Thank you for your patience!

Placing Orders/Order Updates/Lead Times
.
For those that have been following this thread I'm sure you already know we have lead times. As of right this minute, we are bouncing around the 8-10 week mark with 413 orders worth 3043hrs of fabrication on the schedule. If you've been following this thread and saw post #360, you'll know that two months ago we were at this same lead time with 311orders worth 2194hrs, which goes to show how Huge our strides have been in manpower and efficiencies that have been coming full circle, allowing us to greatly increase out weekly outputs without sacrificing the quality of our products and reputation. Some have received their orders far earlier than 8-10 weeks, and that is a possibility if you catch the tail end of a batch run of orders ahead of you, but we always try to operate on an underpromise and overdeliver platform.
.
We apologize for the wait guys. if this was March pre-Covid we'd likely have it out to you in a week. It has been a blessing how busy we have been since losing manpower for four months with the Covid shutdown earlier this year, while orders nearly doubled over 2019. We have added four new fabricators to the team and are looking for more. It took a long time to find the right people to add to the fabrication team, and we are okay with that. We will not sacrifice our quality to just throw anyone on the bench to pump out product. We are very picky, and we appreciate your patience as we continue to grow while doing everything we can to get that lead time back down as it is our number one priority Done Right.
.
Here is a photo of our team when we announced sponsoring PCA Club Racing for 2020, and we'll be doing another one in a couple weeks with a lot of new faces. I'm the fellow wearing the Porsche hat to the right of the header, Mike Spock our marketing guru is dead center giving the thumbs up. We all owe our livelihoods to you and the rest of our customers, and we never forget that. THANK YOU for your business and your support!

If you'd like to place an order, please feel free to do so on our website and reference John Gaydos as your representative during checkout. Ill be sure to oversee the order as it moves through the fabrication queue. In the Notes section, we'd appreciate letting us know if you came from Rennlist and what your username is - we're always interested in knowing who's who on here. You can also call/text/whatsapp me at 1-484-883-6197, shoot me a PM, or email me at johng@soulpp.com. I am always happy to provide you with order updates answer any questions to ensure you make an educated decision.

Best regards,
John Gaydos

Thank god for OG videos. Every exhaust sound videos should take advice from Matt. everything you hear is detailed.

Used to watch his videos when he was at 30k subscribers. Way to go Matt and Soul.

Matt does an excellent job with his work. He is very detailed oriented and transparent with his feedback, OG and SOUL was logically a good match to do a project together and we are very much enjoying it haha.

We are scheduling a local GT4 for a test fit of our second revision of the sport header assemblies. If all goes well I expect we will be able to accept preorders of those headers sometime in January.

However, if you want zero booming sound in the cabin, this is not your exhaust.

With regards to sound and my personal experiences, I found it initially much more aggressive than stock and was a bit concerned about the drone/boom. Definitely MUCH better in the higher revs with a somewhat nasty drone/boom 2.2K to 2.8K that is less once you put the top down. However, after a few weeks, I really don't notice the boom in the cabin as much. I initially would avoid the drone by staying out of that particular rev range but now I don't mind it and shift normally around town. My guess is that one's ear gets accustomed to the sound after getting over the initial shock of how much more aggressive it is over stock. Sure, it's not perfect with the drone/boom but for the $, the positives far outweigh the negative. I would say if you get one, give it a few weeks to get accustomed before making a final determination. For me, it makes for a better overall experience by giving the car a more raw and aggressive feel ..... a real "GT" car.
Great feedback Foggy, thanks for chiming in with it!

You are basically knocking on 450 hp (engine).....if you add race headers that could be an additional good 15 hp and you still haven't done a ECU flash or COBB AP.

Remember guys, our Race Exhaust deletes huge corks in the exhaust system (the particulate filters) which have very similar characteristics of restriction as cat cores. This is in additional to piping diameter, flow path improvements, etc to improve flow that you would see with a typical catback exhaust development. Though technically our Race Exhaust is a "catback" system, it is doing much more for flow improvement than let's say a catback system for a 981 generation GT4/Spyder.

PM me with your location and I'll see if i can find someone near you that is running the setup. Otherwise if you try it and it's too much for you, give me a call and we'll come up with a gameplan. I'm not going to leave you hanging with something on your car that doesn't improve our driving experience, that's not we roll.

Glad you like it my friend! It's brutal, and just as you described you wanted haha. Looking forward to the day you get your car and join the fun : )

You have to have one heck of a constitution to drive that everyday, it is not for the feint of heart haha

I've had guys running without a CEL for up to 700 miles so far, but it will come on eventually even with O2 spacers. These modern cars are just too sensitive to trick into thinking there are cats there like the old gen 987s. You can tune it, but it won't pass emissions at that point even though the CEL would be off. As far as catless smell, hard to give it a range as sensitivity to that smell is just as subjective as sensitivity to drone depending on past experience. That said, it has less catless smell than my 987.2 or any of the catless aircooled cars I've driven. The only time I catch a whiff of catless smell on modern DFI water cooled Porsches is at startup, sitting in traffic with windows down, and coming to a stop with windows down and the backdraft catches up with you. Even so, not as bad as the older cars in regards to it's intensity.

That is the resonated race exhaust. Tough question there. Street headers+non res race would have less overall sound level than competition headers and res race. I'll let you know what the actual sound is like when we try it haha.

I was hoping to get the exhaust by the Jan 15/16 track event but I guess that won't happen. I'll probably just wait to have it installed on my PTS GT4 which is coming in late March.

Apologize for my misinterpretation, I thought ETA of 8-9 weeks includes the jet-hot coating.

Can't wait for it to arrive!

Frankly, this reminds me of the 911 RSR I watched at the Daytona 24 this year. Congrats!
