2017 RSR (LM spec) gathered the tips at the centre so you hear the full 6 together. Note that this still has no merge but just graphically shows just how much difference it makes to the sound. With a merge the sound would be even more in this direction.

The latest gen RSR has side exits so even further accentuates the 2x 3cly sound track.

I'd challenge anyone to find someone who doesn't find the central exit sound the most desirable!

Interesting analysis and a good explanation of why the difference in sound. I assume it is probably not easily fixed (not that I think it needs fixing) due to the arrangement of the rear diffuser, yes?

yes, I have already owned a 991.2 gt3 manual and 991.2 gt3rs pdk. I'm looking to get into a 981 spyder if I decide to get out of this 718 gt4

WOW!!! This is a shocker!

Even if you replace the exhaust, my prediction is that 982 still wouldn't be able to match 981! I've been pouring over every bit of info and processing all the variables. At least you have a car with you to drive and make an educated analysis. I'm relying owners like yourself to make an assessment. Sound is one critical aspect. There are # of other variables that are significant, at least to me. For the record, I'm still on the list for the Spyder. But, I won't compromise with my expectations.

Reading thru this thread bums me out. I wasn't planning on adding an aftermarket exhaust system. Then reading the comments from
JCR about the 2x 3 cyl 2.0 sound, makes me even more bummed out. I hope someone comes up with a way to join the left and right banks.

now that is a serious step down. 981 doesnt even have the GT suspension.

I've a very long time to decide! My target is MY22 or PTS, whichever happens first. I'm gonna wait out and see what products tuners come out with. My preference is to salvage the situation by replacing selective components. I've been waiting for this car for about 4 years now! Not gonna give up easily! Won't compromise either!

981 gt4 was perfect for me, just enough of power for the street, great sounds, less costly. dont want to pay the $400k for the 997.2 gt3 rs 4.0 as I want to drive it and not collect. For under $100k used, a 981 gt4 or spyder is a great buy

The tips don’t need to be physically together to achieve this. Just the correct amount of merge in the right place

For all those planning exhaust modification (myself included), will it be a good idea to do break in procedure first before any modifications?

I would also like to experience the stock exhaust first for a bit and then modify so that I can appreciate the difference

Edit post - jcr, do you have any videos of the non silenced race pipe? Would equipping the opf delete pipe in conjunction with the non silenced race pipe be the answer for those looking to achieve the most volume? Im guessing those in the USA will want the opf delete pipe as well.

I think it’s personal preference. We have customer who are going about it in this way.

Similarly, we have customers who have the exhaust before their cars have even arrived after hearing the stock car in person.

I think many US owners were hopeful of the ‘non OPF’ sound despite us giving that info months ago but it’s now apparent that everything sounds the same regardless of the region
