Looks like it’s a new colour, python green. Bucket seats are available as well at least in Europe.

*sigh* Time to sign off of automotive Internet. I won't be able to read a single article on these cars because I don't expect any journalist blogger will be able to write about them without ****ting on the 4Ts.

I hope that the GTS 4.0 also gets the lightweight sport buckets as an option in the U.S.

According to the German website, the 4.0 GTS Cayman is just 15 kg heavier than the GT4. 30 kg more than the 2.5 GTS.

I think this affects the current 718 market more than the 981 market...

Maybe, but the 718 market is lower in price than the new 4.0 GTS. I doubt everyone is in line for a $100,000 to $110,000 Cayman. For a little more you can buy a 911 with a 3.0l turbo. With all that said, if the 4.0 GTS was available last year when I ordered by 718 GTS, I would have bought one at sticker.

I think it depends on the torque curve doesn't it? And certainly the situation. Stoplight to stoplight I would expect the 2.5 to be faster by the numbers and to feel noticeable quicker by the seat of the pants. The motor in the GT4 needs to be 4500rpm or higher to really start to come on boil (and I don't expect its been altered much if at all for the GTS 4.0) where the 2.5 is making max torque starting at just above 2000rpm.

If it's a situation where both motors can hang out all day above 4500rpm then the higher hp number of the 4.0 should start to pull ahead, at least in theory.

Not quite. It depends on the force (multiplied torque) transmitted to the ground. Gearing matters most. Porsche can make a NA car destroy the 4T will a simple change in gearing. They'll probably have to, but whether they do we'll soon see.

I think all I've ever heard on this sub forum is speak about engine character. Well the engine isn't everything. The gearbox ratios, final drive and rear wheel circumference all matter too and work together to define terminal speeds in gears. How fast the motor builds power and responds to throttle input is what's only relevant to engine character. Having a ton of engine torque down low is useless for all out performance if you find yourself in high rpms in order to maximize acceleration. The downside of turbo cars is knowing where to shift for optimum acceleration. It'll vary by gear. NA you just redline it in every gear.

With 35 PS more it will be faster than the manual 2.5T in all the numbers that matter. Real life roads with traffic on it maybe not so much but it will be hard to find a scenario where its not as quick or quicker.

If the 4.0 GTS makes the 2.5T GTS unavailable though there is the weird situation where you can't get a GTS with PDK for the time being.

Well, my local dealer is indicating that the base price on the Cayman GTS 4.0 will be $90,000 USD. If true, I’m having a hard time deciding, as that’s less than a $10,000 between the GTS 4.0 and the 718 GT4. And I was gonna do a low spec GT4 anyways.

And, it seems perhaps even tougher justifying more for the GTS 4.0 vs a low mileage CPO 981 GT4. Decisions, decisions...
