That is the question I want answered too.

It will be the exact same 6spd they use in all the others. Parts bin etc.

Is there any weight difference between the 2.5 and the 4.0?

I wonder what accounts for the weight gain over the GT4? The GTS has smaller/lighter wheels, tires, and brakes (and maybe suspension also?)...

And, it seems perhaps even tougher justifying more for the GTS 4.0 vs a low mileage CPO 981 GT4. Decisions, decisions...
According to my math, the Cayman GTS should be just under $85k (same as 981 GT4)

I think Porsche has made it very clear that they are not going to develop a new gearbox for this car (the new GT4 would have one, if they were going to make changes)- it will share the same GT4 gearbox from the 981 and 718.

In lbs - for us non-systemei internationale people:

the 718 GTS 4.0 is 33 pounds heavier than the 718 GT4

the 718 GTS 4.0 is 66 pounds heavier than the 718 GTS 2.5

Aluminum front fenders compared to steel front fenders, would be another place the weight of the GT4 is lighter.

Yea, I was surprised when I checked my GTS and found the fenders were steel.

Since the engine case is the same as the 3.0 in the 911, I would not be surprised if the GTS would get the 7 speed from the 911 or previous 718 for emission purpose. It will also further differentiate it from the GT4 to keep the customers in their separate box

Except that would result in 7 different reverse gears and one forward

There is no previous 718 7spd Manual...

Oh man oh man. Last April, I found/bought a 987 Spyder. White, 6 speed, buckets. Perfect, and I just had it paint corrected/PPF removed/reinstalled. Now, Porsche does this. If I'm perfectly honest, although I prefer the way the 987 drives to my old 981, there's a part of me that misses the practicality of the Cayman. The seats were easier for my wife to get in/out of. The car had a roof, so the threat of rain didn't make me think twice about taking it out. I'm on the list at my dealer locally for a 718 Spyder, but there's part of me that's thinking hard about this 4.0 Cayman. I've never bought a new Porsche and there's also a certain appeal to doing a European Delivery trip with my wife, doing a PEC ATL delivery, and then bringing it home. Unfortunately I only have garage space for 1 fun car.

Let me know if you ever want to sell the 987 Spyder. That is a car that I have always considered
